Educational simulation surgeries at our Kawakawa Open Day? Absolutely!

Our team had an incredible time celebrating the official blessing of our Mobile Surgical Unit now operating at Bay of Islands Hospital in Kawakawa.

In collaboration with Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora the day was filled with energy and excitement for this important milestone. We’re proud to welcome Kawakawa to our surgical route and look forward to the positive impact this will have in reducing health inequities for the community.

A big thank you to the rangatahi who joined us for the mock surgeries on board! We loved seeing you step into the shoes of future healthcare heroes and hope you enjoyed being part of the celebration.

Now Accepting Public Referrals At All Site Locations

Public patients can now access PET-CT imaging through the public health system at our mobile sites: Palmerston North, Lower Hutt, and Dunedin.

We’re excited about the impact this will have on patient outcomes,” says Mark Eager, Chief Executive of Mobile Health Group.

“For many provincial patients, diagnosis previously meant the disruption, cost, and stress of travelling to a large city, often at a time when they were already unwell. Providing these services closer to home makes a real and tangible difference, and we’re proud to be partnering with Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora to make it happen,” he adds.

Alisia Stoin, a previous rural health scholarship recipient and second-year medicine student at the University of Auckland shares the powerful message "Don’t wait for opportunity – seek it!". She grew up in the rural town of Marton and admitted that moving to a big city for study wasn't an easy quest, but it doesn't mean that rural students need to feel that they can't stand out in a big city because they can and they can do it well!

She also shares and credits her current success to her scholarship, “Being a scholarship recipient made a huge difference. It meant that for my whole first year, I didn’t have to work. I didn’t have to worry about how I’d afford groceries, or get a laptop, or buy textbooks. I could focus fully on my studies.”.

Alisia is inspiring many with her story and encourages all rural students contemplating a career in health to not wait for opportunities but instead to seize them, "Apply for that scholarship!". Read her full story here https://tinyurl.com/y2bkduke

Our Story

Mobile Health is fully funded by the Ministry of Health and working closely with District Health Boards, delivers two key services to rural New Zealand communities. The first, the mobile surgical bus, offers state-of-the-art surgical services to areas the necessary facilities required for surgery are unavailable. The second service, the Rural Health Professional Development Programme (RHPDP), offers customised, interactive, live-via-satellite training programmes to rural health professionals to allow them access to the professional training and development from which they are otherwise find themselves isolated.
