This is not to scare you... but we need to be aware!
Most NZ and Australia tap water IS treated and generally safe. But there's a journey between the treatment plant and your glass, through pipes, fittings, and infrastructure, and that journey matters.
Here's what can show up đ
đ§ Lead - The big one. This is the one to care about most.
Affects brain development in kids, linked to lower IQ, learning issues and behaviour problems. In adults it's connected to high blood pressure, kidney strain and fertility issues.
There is no safe level of lead exposure, especially for children. Full stop.
đŠ Copper - Common from household pipes.
Short term at high levels it can cause nausea, stomach cramps and vomiting. Long term it can affect liver function.
Usually not dangerous at low levels, but not something you want consistently in your water.
â ď¸ Arsenic - Less common, but serious in some NZ and Aus regions, particularly with groundwater or bore water.
Long-term exposure is linked to skin issues, increased cancer risk and cardiovascular problems.
The best way to remove all of this? Filtration.
This is exactly why we exist. Helping Kiwi n Aussie families get clean, safe water every day, because these side effects are real.
