Reform Radiology is proud to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand Blue September campaign, raising funds to help those living with prostate cancer and to advance life-saving research into better diagnosis and treatment. 💙💙💙

Prostate cancer occurs when abnormal cells develop in the prostate. These cells have the potential to continue to multiply and possibly spread beyond the prostate. Doctors do not know what causes prostate cancer. What they do know however, is that the growth of cancer cells in the prostate is stimulated by male hormones, especially testosterone. In some men the cancer grows very slowly (called indolent), in others growth is more rapid (aggressive). To get checked for prostate cancer please consult with your GP.

1 in 8 men will face prostate cancer in their lifetime.

Men’s health isn’t always openly discussed, which is why this month we’re proud to help raise awareness for this important cause. Early detection saves lives — knowing when and how to get tested for prostate cancer makes all the difference.

🔎 Behind the Reports – Ever wondered what happens after your scan?

Once your scan is complete, a lot happens behind the scenes to ensure you get accurate, timely and expert results. Here's a peek into the process:

1️⃣ Image Acquisition – Our skilled technologists carefully capture detailed images using advanced medical imaging technology.

2️⃣ Image Processing – These images are then uploaded to a secure system and additional advanced images are produced, ensuring clarity and diagnostic quality.

3️⃣ Radiologist Review – A sub-specialised trained radiologist reviews the images, looking for subtle signs that may indicate pathology.

4️⃣ Report Creation – The radiologist writes a detailed report explaining the findings, compares to previous related imaging, and distributes the report electronically to your referring doctor (typically within 24-48 hours).

5️⃣ Patient Follow-Up – Your referrer discusses the results with you and outlines the next steps, if needed.

✨ It’s a thorough process with one goal: giving you clarity, confidence, and the best care possible.

📩 Your images and reports are accessible on the Reform Radiology patient portal after seven days. This ensures your referring clinician has time to review the report and discuss the results with you, helping to clarify any potentially confusing medical terminology.

Temporary Roadworks are underway on Antigua Street and will be in place until November 2025. Antigua Street, between Moorhouse Avenue and St Asaph Street is currently one way north-bound.

The map outlines how you can access Reform Radiology’s Antigua Street Clinic – you can also access the clinic via Acton Street by turning left from Montreal Street. We have dedicated patient parking on-site.

The work has been planned to be completed in time for the opening of Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre in late 2025. For more information see our website https://www.reformradiology.co.nz/about-us/locations/antigua-clinic-roadworks

✨ Mānawatia a Matariki ✨

Matariki marks the Māori New Year — a time to reflect, remember, and celebrate with whānau. As the star cluster rises in our winter skies, we honour tradition through kai, kōrero, and connection.

Our clinics are closed tomorrow for the public holiday. Wishing our wonderful team, referrers and valued patients a restful and joyful Matariki weekend. 🙏

June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.

Bowel cancer is the second-highest cause of cancer death in New Zealand, but it shouldn’t be – it’s beatable and treatable if diagnosed early enough.

The website has a webpage dedicated to checking symptoms. Check it out here https://bowelcancernz.org.nz/check-your-symptoms/

Today, 19th May 2025, is International IBD Day.

Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are gastrointestinal disorders collectively known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The conditions are an emerging global disease, with New Zealand having one of the highest prevalence in the world

Reform Radiology is committed to advancing IBD awareness through state-of-the-art gastrointestinal imaging, complimenting early detection and tailored patient management plans in collaboration with the myriad of healthcare professionals involved.

Recently our Chief Medical Officer, Dr Joel Dunn spoke about gut imaging at the Superstars of IBD Conference in Queenstown, further highlighting our commitment.
