I am officially on leave now until Tuesday 6th January. Thank you to the amazing people who continue to support my little business. I look forward to some R&R before embarking on what hopefully will be an exciting 2026 💫 I wish everyone a lovely and restful break. This photo gets used a lot to demonstrate the sun damage caused by this man driving a truck for over 30 years. This is your PSA that YES you can receive intense levels of UVA in a car & YES you can can get sun damage if you work in an office (particularly if you sit near a window). Also note, that the sun damage shown here is something called solar elastosis - where the UV essentially degrades our natural elastin & collagen in the skin leading to wrinkle formation & loss of skin volume. Skin cancer is always my priority but sun damage comes in other forms & really, is it worth it? If you have a long car journey this summer, wear your sunscreen & even a hat...windows don’t protect you!

Enjoying some food and wine at the . In the shade, got my sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and am pretty covered up. You can still enjoy the sun but in a safe way 🙌🏻 because doesn’t take a break!

Tools of the trade as a 🛠️ 🧰 Dermoscopy is ESSENTIAL for skin cancer screening as is having the training AND the experience. However, diagnosis can only be made by a pathologist looking under a microscope (IMO) but dermoscopy is a valuable part of the puzzle 🧩 👍

Its been awhile so I thought I would re-introduce myself 🥰

I am a registered nurse with a passion for all things skin cancer - how to prevent it, educating people on how to prevent it & providing skin cancer screening services ('skin checks' & 'spot checks'). I have been working in this space for over 2 years now and have identified hundreds of skin cancer.

Skin cancer is so easily prevented with good education & regular skin checks. My aim is to provide an affordable service where anyone can benefit from having a skin check and learn a bit more about skin cancer prevention.

I run my clinic in the Christchurch area - offering regular clinics as well as corporate checks and education.

Skin cancer checks shouldn’t be anxiety-inducing! That’s why I give people time…time to chat, time to inform, time to check and time to educate. Don’t let anxiety stop you from getting a check. It is super important in Aotearoa where we know our skin cancer rates are one of the highest in the world.

Quite often people are quick to blame their sunscreen for causing breakouts on their skin but there are some things to consider…
1. Are you using a FACE sunscreen? Face sunscreens are typically non-comedogenic (don’t cause pimples) and formulated specifically for the face. If you’re using that thick, “all-purpose” (and likely heavy) sunscreen on your face, you may want to switch!
2. If you’re outside, you’re going to sweat & sweat + sunscreen + environmental pollutants = breakouts 3. Are you washing your face at night? Seems a no-brainer BUT you need to cleanse your skin to remove sunscreen and built-up pollutants on the skin - in fact a DOUBLE-CLEANSE is recommended for squeaky clean skin 👍 Try these things first before blaming your sunscreen 🫶🏻

Some common places I see skin cancers (both for melanoma & non-melanoma skin cancers). These are just my observations as a skin cancer nurse who performs regular skin checks ☺️

Skin is amazing & it tries to tell you when it isn’t happy! Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) has many impacts on the skin - take them as a warning so that you can protect yourself! If you think you’re getting too much sun, might be time to get a skin check!
