We recently held a cultural diversity celebration at Avonlea! We shared a Filipino song, cultural dance from both Fiji and the Philippines, and a cultural quiz. We enjoyed quite a bit of discussion about the flags and countries that residents and team members hail from. Some family members also shared their culture. They sang for us, did a haka and poi dancing. Team members sang the waiata 'Te Taukaea Aroha', with Fitz accompanying us on the guitar. Finally we enjoyed kai together.

We had another lovely visit from our very dear friend Paddington, with his owner, Dave from Canine Friends. Paddington brightens up our day and has a very calming effect in our home. Some of the residents like to reminisce about the beloved pets they used to have whilst living in their own homes.

We recently joined residents from other rest homes for a lovely gathering at Ngā Hau E Whā National Marae. We sang waiata, with Thomas leading us on his electric guitar. We enjoyed socialising, reminiscing, sharing kai and playing games.

We had fun hosting our Mid-Winter Family Gatherings recently. It was wonderful to catch up with some family members and enjoy afternoon tea together. We enjoyed a bit of a sing-along, accompanied by Fitz on the guitar.

Matariki is a wonderful time to remember, reflect and look ahead. We remember loved ones who have passed, and we celebrate the moments of love and laughter in our home. We share joy and stories, and we are grateful for the aroha within our rest home community. May the rising of the Matariki stars bring peace and connectedness.

Here are some photos we took during over the Easter period and on ANZAC day.

During Easter Sunday we had activities that all residents took part in. We enjoyed Easter trivia, an egg hunt and delicious Easter eggs. We baked bunny cookies throughout the week.

On ANZAC day we baked some ANZAC biscuits. Residents watched the service that was on TV1 and we enjoyed reading and talking about ANZAC stories.

Autumn leaves are falling, the air is turning crisp, and cosy moments fill our home. As Easter approaches, we welcome the warmth of togetherness.
