Spiky massage balls improve blood flow. They also stimulate muscle reflexes and release muscle tension throughout the body . They can help increase body awareness and aid in rehabilitation. The spikes target trigger points and can reduce pain and improve range of motion.

They are easy to use - just sit, lay or lean on your massage ball and use your body weight to apply pressure to a tight muscle.

A Spiky Ball can also be used to help release tension in aching muscles after long hours spent in the office or after a workout. It can get to those hard to reach areas such as the upper back, buttocks and feet.

We have massage balls for sale at our clinic for just $10. Ask your osteopath if a massage ball would be helpful for you. To book an appointment call 03 355 6166 or online at osteo.co.nz

With daylight saving over and the weather turning colder, it may be time to think of mixing things up to stay active this autumn.

Exercising outside during the daylight hours helps keep your mood up. You could aim for 10,000 steps of brisk walking, train for a 10km running challenge, find a scenic cycling route, or start a team sport or boot camp in your local park. If you have appropriate clothing that is wind and rain resistant but breathable, you will be more likely to keep exercising during the cooler months.

Remember to keep hydrated and make sure to schedule days off to help with recovery.

If you want a check up before starting a new regime, contact us on 03 355 6166 or book online at osteo.co.nz 🍁

Repetitive strain injuries (RSI) occur when a person repeatedly does the same action for long periods of time such as working on a computer or repetitive physical work. It can also be related to leisure activities.

RSI can present in two forms; medical conditions such as tennis elbow or carpal tunnel syndrome or where it doesn't fit into a recognised condition and is referred to as non-specific or diffuse pain.

Osteopathic treatment can help the problem by treating the symptomatic area and checking the rest of the body. For example, if you have RSI in your forearm, your osteopath will ensure that the elbow, shoulder, neck and upper back are all functioning correctly. They will also give you advice on exercises and strapping.

Osteopathy is a drug-free, non-invasive form of manual medicine that focuses on the health of the whole body, not just the injured or affected part.

Osteopathy is about treating your body as one system, not isolated parts. By addressing the connection of muscles, joints, bones, and nerves, osteopathy helps restore balance and support your body’s natural healing processes.

When you treat the body as a whole, everything starts working better together. It’s the key to feeling like your best self—not just in one area, but in every way.
