NCEA Changes & Outdoor Education – Update
EONZ is currently working on our approach to respond to the government’s proposed NCEA changes, which would remove Outdoor Education from the senior subject list in the general pathway.
We believe Outdoor Education is not a “nice-to-have” or a frivolous subject, it’s a well-established, evidence-based area of learning that grows essential life skills like leadership, resilience, environmental stewardship, teamwork, and problem-solving. These skills are valued in every sector, not just the outdoors, and have helped countless people thrive in careers from business to tourism, education to engineering.
We’ll be sharing more information next week, including practical ways you can help us advocate for OE’s rightful place in the curriculum.
In the meantime:
We’re looking for high-profile New Zealanders who studied Outdoor Education and feel it played a significant role in their career journey – in any field. If you know someone who fits this description, please tag them or email celia@eonz.org.nz
We want to make sure the voices of those who’ve benefited from Outdoor Education are heard loud and clear.
