My colleague Waveney wrote this for her Linkedin page and I had to share. Thanks Waveney.
Being well and wellbeing... both are achievable!
Being well or wellness, is generally regarded as the absence of physical illness, while wellbeing covers the whole of our being- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
Impacting positively on any one of these aspects of our being, will cascade into a positive impact for all aspects of our being. This is the unheralded bonus from treatments using the ancient medicine system and theories that originated in China, spreading to east Asia and now practised in over 180 countries around the world.
The theoretical depth and practice of Chinese medicine whether acupuncture or herbal medicines has been honed for over 2000 years to deliver a truly holistic impact- treating the whole of our being.
Western medicine has evolved to just treat illness and while this is necessary, integrating a medicine that helps to maintain wellness and wellbeing, working preventively rather than reactively should also be embraced for the amazing health and financial benefits.
Being ill costs on many levels- financially with medical tests, pharmaceutical drugs, referrals to specialists or other practitioners, surgery, rehabilitation, time away from work, loss of income - mentally and emotionally with loss or interruption to wellness, capacity, lifestyle, socialising and time while trying to cope with pain or disability.
The holistic nature of Chinese medicine treatments, mean that mind, body and spirit benefit altogether in the one treatment, a big saving because it's not fragmented care with several providers but a highly educated registered practitioner providing a whole of body approach. Nothing in our body works in isolation so treating whole of body with specifically individualised treatments is best practice approach for positive patient centred outcomes.
