A Taonga Pūoro immersion into the waters of Te Wai Pounamu
with Gabriel Messenjah Calcott.

Gabriel is a DJ, producer, radio host, sound engineer, and Waitaha Taonga Pūoro artist who has been shaping and exploring sound in its many forms for nearly 30 years. He is a founding member of Waikirikiri Kōpuni Taonga Pūoro collective Kiki Pounamu, with whom he produced three albums between 2020 and 2023.

Gabriel is also a passionate advocate for the protection of our rivers, lakes, and oceans and is deeply committed to the principle of kaitiakitanga—guardianship and stewardship—of our waterways.

A Taonga Pūoro immersion into the waters of Te Wai Pounamu. Featuring field recordings of 7 treasured rivers, including the Rakaia, Rangitata, Hurunui, Porarari, Okuti & Waikirikiri.

Woven live with the ancient vibrations of handmade Taonga Pūoro, honoring Ngā Kaiwaiata Awa the River Singers of Waitaha who once walked all the rivers of the South Island testing and monitoring water quality, and adding to the rivers natural songs.

We are delighted to share that Krystal Shih of Kinesphere will be with us at Aroha Flow Retreat at Waitangi weekend.

Krystal is the heart and energy behind Kinesphere. Kinesphere was born from a desire to support others in remembering their innate capacity to heal.

She sees her role as being one of holding space, witnessing with care, and gently guiding you back to the wisdom of your body.
This is through Usui Reiki and Soul Journey Hypnotherapy.

Tiana Te Moana

Of Rongoa nga Mata 🌿

Tiana is a Rongoā practitioner and kaiako based here in Ōtautahi.
She is Tūhoe and is from the Te Urewera region in Te Ika-a-Māui. (North Island of Aotearoa).

Tiana is a long-time tauira of Maramataka, the traditional Māori lunar calendar. As a kaitiaki (guardian) of
te taiao (the natural environment) she shares her knowledge and kōrero on Maramataka to encourage us to have a deep respect for the environment and an understanding of the
interconnectedness of all living things.

At Aroha Flow, Tiana will guide us on an evening Maramataka wānanga under the starlit sky. We can't wait! ✨️

Tiana and her whānau are long-time supporters of Aroha Essence Festival and have also been part of our wāhine circles at
Goddess Gatherings By The Sea, our beach cleans, and Matariki Celebrations.

Beltane Blessings 🔥

Some celebrate this sacred day on the traditional date of today October 31st and some on the exact date which this year is on Friday 7th November. My personal practice is to go with the exact date but I think of today as the portal opening and geez the energies are already big!!

Beltane is a Sabbat, 1 of 8 sacred days marked on the Wheel of the Year. It has ancient roots with celebrations held around the world, all with a similar theme focusing on the coming of Summer & the new energies this season brings with it.

Some don't follow the wheel of the year as they prefer to follow the cycles and nature here in the southern hemisphere. I love the Sabbats - it's like a magickal check in/realignment that kinda keeps me on track, I also feel the connection with my Ancestors who came over here from Scotland 6 generations ago.
Having said that, I do have a have a deep love for this beautiful country and I tune in daily to current energies - so I blend the wheel of the year (based on NH traditions and timing) with what's actually happening where I live.

The moral of this is - go with what feels right for you, your practice is your own 🙏

Tonight our focus is within ourselves. we focus on our inner sacred mauri our wairua. We create a tau sensation and utilise only our mental strengths.

It is our time to acknowledge we are physical and spiritual beings experiencing life and that our environment rests from sunset to sunrise, it is a time to rejuvenate our physical body and utilise our spiritual senses. To prepare for yet another Moon Cycle ahead.

The change of Seasons Super New Moon begins tonight!!! And the Eclipse Season ends with the rise of Te Raa hei apopo.. A Partial Solar Eclipse. So those feeling the ahi like myself since the Whiro Full Moon will now be able to flow once more.

The official four nights of the New moon begin tonight. They are Mauri, Mutuwhenua, Whiro ,and Tirea
