And just like that… 10 years rolls around 🫣
Today was my official last day

It’s bittersweet leaving all the weird and wonderful staff and members at the gym 🫣🥰🥹🙃🤪 I’ve learnt so much from all of you and it has been a privilege to work alongside incredible trainers. I will miss all the supportive chats and inappropriate humour.

I’m so thankful to my extremely loyal clients for trusting in me with your bodies! Knowing you’re continuing to train with me means more than you could ever know. I feel extremely grateful for your understanding and support as this has been a hard decision. I’m launching an app to provide programs, nutrition and support over the next month. I’m also fizzing about a new service that I will be able provide in a few months!

I’m excited to have more time for my friends and family (and 🏄‍♀️ 💃🏼 🏃🏽‍♀️ 📚 ) whilst focusing on Personal Training, group training, nutrition coaching and online training from home in Sumner. I’m having fun picking my favourite equipment for you to get your best results. Massive shout out to my very patient and supportive husband you’ve done an incredible job of transforming the garage into a gym space I love. 🔨 🪴 💪🏼 🏡

This is an extremely rewarding job and I feel very proud to be still happily working for more than 15 years. Especially through pregnancy/maternity leave, covid, our EQC extensive repairs (moving my Sumner business location multiple times) my having major heart surgery (still on ACC). I have seen many lovely and skilled trainers unable to launch their careers so I need to pause and pat myself on the back today. I must be doing something right 😉 So if you want to find out what you’re missing out on. PM me or send your Sumner friends my way. I have a couple of morning spots available…

Love a platter? But can’t stop nibbling?

There’s good reason for this. It’s your brain having a party on dopamine (feel good hormones) from the glucose spike. We are wired to want sweet, fatty and salty food. It’s all about survival. So don’t be hard on yourself!

A platter can still be nutritious and delicious if you reduce the beige and ramp up the colours. Eating socially is one area of nutrition often overlooked. However, being social is an important part of our health and welling. And eating socially is cultural and a reality. Especially this time of year. 🎄 It’s all about being smarter to make the choice easier!

Include;
Protein - chicken, salmon, cottage cheese dips, edamame.
Veggies (fibre) - carrots, cucumber, capsicum, radish.
Fats - cheese, nuts, seeds, avocado
Fruit - grapes, strawberries, apples

Example ideas;
Guacamole and veggies
Greek yoghurt or cottage cheese based dips + toasted pumpkin seeds + veggies
Cucumber + nut spreads
Roasted chickpeas + seasoning

Food waste tip: blend up any left over veggies with white beans, salt, pepper, lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, herbs. And you have a delicious dip for a platter or spread for your lunch.

Which is better for health- running or walking?

Like all training - it’s the one you can be consistent with. Generic Online Programs will only get you so far.

Personal Training or personal programming means to me:

Understanding your goals and lifestyle (the reality of how much / where you can train).
* You may need PT, gym, home and travel program.

Your injuries, posture, overall health.
* You may need more nutrition recovery support or daily stretches/exercises.

Your preference and expectations.
* You may hate dumbbells or find some exercises uncomfortable (eg. Wrists) - there’s so many ways to train without unnecessary pain!

Continued Education.
* sleep, stress, recovery, nutrition (yes I’m qualified), hormones, scaling exercises to suit the day (throughout pregnancy, monthly cycle,
multi sport, injury), myth busting etc.

Feedback.
* eyes on to know your form is right for your needs and goals.

Support.
* because most people just need to vent about hard days and I’m not going to spend all day yelling at people.

Celebrating your success and reminding you how far you’ve come. Because goals aren’t linear!

Helping to build confidence in your body and ability to take take the small steps towards improving.
* exercise is not for punishment of xyz…

Not seeing or feeling results even when you gym/exercise regularly?

One reason why I see people stall in their results is because they assume doing structured exercise is the only energy expenditure they need and they cut back on their NEAT.

Another reason is that people reduce their calorie intake too much. The body is very clever. With the reduction in energy it will also mean a reduction in NEAT.

Takeaway tips:
- If you’re trying to get leaner, don’t drop your calories too low.
- Movement is not just about what you do in the gym. Dance, garden, play with your kids, go for a walk, hand wash the car, take the stairs…
- NEAT plays role in weight management, mood and overall health.
