Being sick with no voice for almost a month sucked! Not able to see my lovely clients, or do the things I would normally do. A great reminder however, that slowing down is SO important, as is self-care, whatever that looks like for you.
For me, I am meditating daily, connecting with a deep sense of gratitude for the blessings I have in my life, and my cute new puppy Sadie helps! What are you thankful for today?

Happy Sunday all!
Today I’ll tell you a little about one of the modalities I offer in therapy called Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR).
This method of working has been extensively researched and has been shown to be extremely effective for many people with PTSD to help move stuck trauma memories and integrate them more effectively. This doesn’t mean you will forget the memory but when it does show up, you may relate to it differently, be less triggered by it and thus, the trauma becomes less impactful on your life than it has been to date.
It is considered a bit ‘woo woo’ as it is very different to talk therapy. The process requires your eyes to follow my fingers (not hypnosis!) This eye movement replicates what happens to our eyes during REM or deep sleep.
If you want to know more or think this could be something you or someone you know is interested in doing, feel free to get in touch!

A beautiful sunrise at the beach. One of my most favourite things! It helps me to be present in the moment, it reminds me to slow down and not take life so seriously, and connects me back to nature, where we all come from in the first place!
What helps you to be more present and slow down when life gets busy and overwhelming?

Do you notice when you’re feeling really stagnant, stuck or have negatively-charged ruminating thoughts? Maybe it actually means that something fresh, new and exciting is headed your way, you just have to be open to the possibility! 💜

Kia Ora,

I’m Zoe, a self-employed counsellor living in Christchurch New Zealand and offering Telehealth (online and phone) counselling NZ wide. I’ve been doing this nearly 10 years now so thought it’s about time to do some self-promotion!

I’ve recently been reminded that I got into the counselling field as I have always been a helper. A person that friends and others came to, even as a teen, for a listening ear, a big cuddle or to seek advice and support from.

I feel very proud and extremely privileged that I get to do this for my work. To support people in some of their darkest moments in life and to see such amazing transformation is truly humbling. Humans are so bloody resilient, it still astounds me!

Please feel free to share my posts and page to family, friends or anyone you think needs support or that might resonate with me (more info on my talkingworks page, link above in bio and will post more about what I do etc. in the coming days and weeks).

Looking forward to supporting more people on this crazy journey we call life! 💜
