Kia ora whānau, Kia Āhumahi has arrived 🌱

Every rangatahi deserves the opportunity to feel supported, connected, and confident about their future. Kia Āhumahi has been developed to support young people across Canterbury to take meaningful steps toward employment, mentorship, and long-term opportunities.

This kaupapa is focused on more than employment alone — it is about building pathways, strengthening confidence, fostering connection, and walking alongside our rangatahi as they move toward their future.

We are proud to be delivering Kia Āhumahi alongside Odyssey House Christchurch and Stepping Stone Trust, Canterbury, with a shared commitment to supporting and uplifting our communities.

A sincere mihi to Maui Studios for capturing this kaupapa so thoughtfully through the video.

We also acknowledge and thank the crew who supported the delivery of this kaupapa, the rangatahi who shared their stories and presence on screen, and the kaimahi on the ground whose ongoing dedication and support make this work possible.

To all our rangatahi — we see you, we support you, and we are committed to walking alongside you.

Recently, our Purapura Whetū team leads came together for a great day of leadership development and growth with Phil Siataga and Wiremu Gray ✨

The training brought a Māori and Pacific world view of leadership, creating space to reflect on personal values and how they shape leadership styles.

Strengthening our leadership capability and understanding across our team leads helps improve the way our support is delivered and how we can better serve our community 🤝

Pink Shirt Day Aotearoa 👚👚👚👚👚👚👚👚👚

Kia ora whānau! Today, our kaimahi came together for a shared afternoon tea to acknowledge Pink Shirt Day!! Dressed in every shade of pink, everyone also took part in some friendly competition by voting for best dressed tāne and wāhine.

This year’s kaupapa, “Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying,” reminds us of the importance of creating communities where people feel safe, respected, and supported to be themselves. 🩷

Purapura Whetū Trust | Hui-ā-Iwi 2026 ✨

A powerful day of kōrero, unity, and shared purpose as kaimahi of Purapura Whetū came together for Hui ā Iwi 2026.

The day opened with a meaningful pōwhiri between Purapura Whetū and Ngā Hau e Whā. We extend our sincere thanks for the warm welcome, generosity, and hospitality shared with us throughout the day.

From the outset, the kaupapa was firmly set. Sampson Karst (Purapura Whetū Trust Board Member) opened with grounding reflections that anchored us in purpose, followed by Whaea Tihi Puanaki, who lifted the room with humour, storytelling, and moments that had everyone engaged and laughing together. Whaea Ivy, co-founder of Purapura Whetū, brought us back to the foundations of our mahi, reminding us of our beginnings and the vision that continues to guide us forward. Across the day, Kaiwhakahaere Matua Karaitiana Tickell held the flow of proceedings, weaving each kōrero together with care and intent.

The afternoon brought depth and perspective through a range of powerful voices. Harry Tam shared lived experience and reflections from decades of community and policy work, offering whakaaro that both challenged and inspired. This was followed by Tracey and Tuari Potiki from Whare Tukutuku (Te Rau Ora), alongside Dr Cheryl Stephens, who added further insight and enriched our shared whakaaro for the future.

The day closed with a Purapura Whetū internal Expo, where all services showcased their mahi. The space came alive as kaimahi moved between stalls, sharing what they do and learning more about the wider rōpū, building familiarity and appreciation across teams. 🤝
