✨INFLAMM-AGING: when inflammation meets ageing in your skin ✨
Did you know that persistent, low-level inflammation can be one of the hidden drivers of skin ageing? The term -- inflammaging (inflammatory + ageing) -- describes how inflammation over time impairs your skin’s barrier and accelerates visible signs of ageing.
In plain English: your SKIN BARRIER is like the ROOF OF YOUR HOUSE. To protect everything inside you need that roof to be: strong, resilient, water-tight, dust-tight, pollen-tight, pathogen-resistant, with good insulation and ventilation.
In exactly the same way, your skin barrier must:
✨Prevent excess water loss (transepidermal water loss)
✨Keep out irritants, allergens, pollutants, microbes
✨Retain essential hydration and nutrients so your skin’s enzymes and repair systems can work optimally
But when inflammation is ongoing (even at a low key level) the barrier becomes compromised.
