Helping Us Look After Everyone

At Solecare, each appointment time is reserved just for you.

If plans change, giving us a bit of notice means we can offer that spot to someone else who may be waiting for care.

Missed appointments without notice can’t always be filled and may likely incur a fee.

We’re always happy to help when circumstances are unavoidable - just keep us in the loop.

Behind the scenes at Solecare

Our sterilisation system (autoclave) has just completed its annual service and validation - and passed.

As part of this process, they also run biological monitoring.
A sample is taken from inside the steriliser and cultured to check for any surviving microorganisms. That result has also come back clear.

It’s all part of maintaining compliance with AS/NZS 5369:2023 - the standard that governs infection prevention and control in healthcare settings.

Not something you see during your visit, but an important part of making sure everything we do is safe, clean, and consistent.

As the nights get cooler, most people switch into slippers at home.

They’re comfortable - but often very soft and unsupportive under load.

We tend to see more flare-ups this time of year,
not from doing more, but from what’s changed at home.

In some cases, a more supportive option at home can make a noticeable difference - we keep a small range in clinic.

A small problem, dealt with early, is usually a quick fix.

Leave it a bit longer, and it tends to grow into something that takes more time to sort.

We see it play out every day.

If you’re already out and about, we’re easy to get to — with parking nearby and local buses close by.

What does your day look like?

On your feet all day → higher load

Moving on and off → moderate load

Mostly sitting → lower load

→ Your shoes should match that.

Available to try in our Avonhead clinic.

Foot Wisdom #7

Some people don’t think much about their feet - until they stop working properly.

A small pressure point.
A thickened nail.
A spot that rubs in a work boot.

Often it’s not painful enough to stop you doing things, but it becomes one more small irritation in the day. Something you notice when you walk a little further, stand a little longer, or reach the end of a busy week.

Good foot care isn’t about fuss - It’s about removing the small things that slowly start to get in the way.

A pressure point reduced.
A nail made comfortable again.
A shoe that fits properly.

When your feet are comfortable, you simply get on with life - walking, working, travelling, doing the things you enjoy. Most people don’t think about their feet when they’re working well.
And that’s exactly the point.

Sometimes the goal isn’t dramatic improvement.

It’s simply making sure things keep working the way they should.
Many of these small changes are easy to address when noticed early.

Foot Wisdom is a weekly reflection from Solecare - sharing simple, practical insights from years of podiatry experience.

Our feet carry us through every stage of life. Small changes, when understood early, can preserve comfort, confidence and independence for years to come.

This series is about prevention, understanding, and caring for your feet as part of lifelong health - not just fixing problems when they appear.

Ever wondered why corns appear on toes?

A corn on a toe usually starts quietly.

A toe sits slightly differently in a shoe. There’s a little extra pressure with each step. Over time, the skin protects itself by building a small, hard spot - what we call a corn.

At first it might just feel like a nuisance.

But if the pressure keeps repeating day after day, the corn can deepen, bruise and eventually break down into something much more painful.

The good news is that most of the time, the solution is simple when caught early.

A podiatrist can remove the corn, reduce the pressure causing it, and help stop it coming back - often with small changes to footwear, padding, or load through the foot.

It’s much easier to fix the cause early than to deal with the consequences later.

If something on your foot is starting to bother you, it’s worth getting it checked. Sometimes the smallest problems are the easiest ones to solve.
