Technology improves.
Care is still human.

AI might analyse scans, measure load, or suggest treatment pathways one day.
But listening, reassuring, noticing the small details; that’s still a person.

We’ll keep using good tools.
We’ll also keep the human touch.

Foot Wisdom #5 by Solecare Podiatry

Sore heels in kids don’t usually appear out of nowhere.
They tend to show up at a very particular time of year.

Over summer, children grow — often more than parents realise.
Then school starts again, sport resumes, and suddenly those longer legs are running on hard ground, firm courts, and dry grass fields.

That combination : growth, increased load, and unforgiving surfaces — is often when heel pain flares.

Conditions like Sever’s aren’t injuries in the traditional sense.
They’re a sign that growing feet are being asked to do more than they can comfortably tolerate, all at once.

In clinic, this often sounds like:
“They were fine over the holidays… then school and sport started again.”

Early care isn’t about wrapping kids in cotton wool.
It’s about helping their feet cope during growth phases: reducing strain, managing load, and keeping them moving comfortably while things settle.

Sometimes that support is simple: adjusting footwear, adding cushioning or orthotic support, strapping, easing tight calves, or modifying activity briefly while growth catches up.

At Solecare, we look at the whole picture: growth, sport, surfaces, and timing — so sore heels don’t quietly turn into weeks of frustration or missed activity.

Listening early applies at every age.

Long days on your feet call for the right footwear.

We kept seeing the same pattern: people needing a dependable black work shoe, but finding fewer options that still offer real structure and support.

So we’ve taken a practical approach.

We now carry a small, podiatry-approved range of work and everyday active footwear. Neutral. Stable. Designed for long hours on hard floors.

For some, the anatomical footbed provides enough support on its own. For others, it can be removed to accommodate an orthotic without compromise.

Nothing loud. Nothing over-engineered.
Just a shoe that works - available at our Christchurch clinic.

A small, podiatry-approved range of footwear for work and everyday activity. Suitable with or without orthotics. Personalised fitting available at Solecare Podiatry.

Foot Wisdom #4 by Solecare Podiatry

Conditions like plantar fasciitis or recurring heel pain often appear earlier in life.

They’re usually treated as short-term problems.

But they’re also messages.

Pain often reflects how stress is being absorbed by the feet. If those patterns continue, they tend to resurface later — often in more limiting ways.

In clinic, this often comes up when someone mentions they “used to get heel pain years ago,” or recalls needing to rest after long days on their feet; without realising those were early signs of how their feet were coping with load.

Early care isn’t about being fragile.
It’s about understanding what the feet need to cope comfortably over time.

Sometimes that means adjusting support before strain becomes persistent, addressing tightness or imbalance early, or changing footwear habits that quietly overload the same structures year after year.

At Solecare, we help people interpret those early signals; so today’s discomfort doesn’t quietly shape tomorrow’s limitations.

Listening early is a form of prevention.

We often hear the same thing after treating thickened nails:

“I should have done this sooner.”

What starts as a nail that’s harder to cut can gradually become uncomfortable in shoes.

In most cases, treatment is simple and far more comfortable than people expect.

If your nails are becoming difficult to manage, don’t wait until they’re painful.

Footwear for long days on your feet.

We see a lot of people who do everything right: reasonable hours, sensible loads, good habits and still end up with sore heels, aching arches, or feet that don’t recover between shifts.

It’s rarely one dramatic failure.
More often, it’s footwear that slowly stops holding up: less structure, less support, more fatigue carried by the feet.

When shoes become the weakest link, problems tend to follow.

We’ve been paying close attention to this: especially for people who need a dependable black work shoe that can handle long hours on hard floors.

Foot Wisdom #3 by Solecare Podiatry

Walking rarely disappears overnight.
It fades gradually, often without people noticing.

As feet change with age, pressure can feel sharper, skin more sensitive, and endurance lower. Walking that once felt effortless begins to require thought.

People adapt quietly — choosing shorter routes, avoiding outings, or deciding it’s “not worth it”.

The issue isn’t weakness.
It’s load exceeding what the feet can comfortably tolerate.

In clinic, that often shows up in small, practical ways: pressure over bunion joints, toes rubbing where space has narrowed, or thickened nails catching on the tops of shoes and making each step less comfortable.

Reducing pressure, improving support, and addressing those small issues early can dramatically change how walking feels. Sometimes that means using simple spacers to ease joint pressure, fabricating orthotic support to spread load more evenly, or carefully thinning nails so shoes feel comfortable again.

At Solecare, we focus on keeping walking comfortable enough that it stays part of daily life — not something rationed or avoided.

Ease is the foundation of movement.
