📄New 12-Monthly Prescriptions in New Zealand - What You Need to Know

Good news! From 1 February 2026 In New Zealand, many medicines can now be prescribed for up to 12 months, making it easier to stay on track with long-term treatment.

How it works:
✔Your GP or prescriber can issue a prescription that lasts up to 12 months
✔Medicines are still usually supplied in monthly or 3-monthly repeats, depending on the medication
✔Your prescriber will decide if a 12-month prescription is appropriate based on your condition and medicine

Who it’s for:
• Stable, long-term conditions
• Medicines that are well tolerated and regularly used
• Patients who don’t need frequent dose changes or monitoring

Benefits for customers:
✨Fewer GP visits just to renew prescriptions
✨ Less stress remembering to rebook appointments
✨ Better continuity of care and medication adherence
✨ More convenience for busy schedules
✨Only one $5 co-payment – saving you money
