I’m apologising in advance for my terrible online presence, I’m just a mama who cares, talking to other mamas who care! The message remains true despite my poor delivery.

Well… that’s a wrap on 2025 💙 The office keys have been hung up, the manikins deep cleaned and stored. The computers shut down and unplugged. The christmas cheer shared as a team.

We’ve been reflecting on the moments that made us smile, stretched us, and reminded us why we do what we do. Like most years, it’s been a mix of hard mahi, beautiful moments and people that make our world glow brighter.

Here are a few that stood out for our team:

✨ Growing the CFA whānau
One of our biggest joys this year was welcoming Jodie officially into the City First Aid family. Watching her step into the role, bring her energy, and connect so naturally with learners has been an absolute highlight for all of us.

✨ Learning that adapts, includes, and inspires
Working alongside IDEA Services and teaching first aid to their day programmes was genuinely special. Seeing how learning can be adapted, and how confidence grows when people feel supported. This reminded us that first aid really is for everyone.
From classrooms to scenarios in a waka on the Avon, these sessions were some of the most fun and meaningful we’ve had all year.

✨ Busy days and good challenges
Being busier in the classroom mid-year, brought its own satisfaction.

✨ FAB courses, walking clubs, and new perspectives
Some of our favourite courses this year were the FAB sessions, including a trampingclub where curiosity and engagement were a real highlight for Nick.
And outside the classroom, there were some huge personal milestones too-including earning a private pilot’s licence and discovering New Zealand from the air. What a way to see our beautiful motu/country.

✨ Serving where it matters
Travelling to Kaikōura to support fire-affected communities by providing a first aid tent was a powerful reminder of the role we can play beyond the classroom, showing up when people really need support.

✨ Behind the scenes strength
This year also saw big progress in strengthening our systems and foundations, putting CFA in a really solid position moving forward. Add in time away on holiday, more moments with family and grandkids, and opportunities to serve through our work-and it’s been a year of quiet wins as well as visible ones.

✨ And the honest truth…
It’s been a tough year for some of us. But it’s also been peppered with moments that shine brightly. The work we do together, and the people we get to teach and learn alongside, make it deeply rewarding-and help us keep showing up with a smile, even on the hard days.

To everyone who trained with us, worked with us, trusted us, or cheered us on, thank you. We’re proud of this year, proud of our team, and grateful for the community around us.

Here’s to rest, reflection, and stepping into 2026 ready to paddle on together 🌊💙

Well, here we are, putting up our January 2026 public classes schedule. This is exciting!

We love what we do, and we love meeting new learners and reconnecting with past learners. We’re also looking forward to some well-earned downtime over the Christmas break.

City First Aid will be closed from 19 December (end of day) to 12 January.

We wish you all a happy and safe break for you and your whānau, and we look forward to connecting again in class in 2026!

We played "Who's Most Likely To..." at our Christmas party and none of us got to see who was blaming who until we watched the video back.
Fair warning: it's loud (we're in a busy restaurant), and we're laughing way too much (maybe just me).
But that's kind of the point.
These are the people who teach your first aid courses. We take the training seriously - but we don't take ourselves too seriously. We're real people who genuinely like working together, and honestly? That matters when you're learning CPR from us.
If you've ever wondered what first aid instructors are like when we're not teaching you how to save lives... this is it. Chaotic. Loud. Laughing at ourselves.
We didn't finish with "Who's most likely to wish everyone a Merry Christmas?" but I'll do it now:
Merry Christmas from all of us at City First Aid. Thanks for letting us teach you this year. See you in 2026! 🎅
(And yes, there's already a plan for the next year's party.)

Heading out into the Avon to run first aid scenarios on a waka 🛶
Here's why this is a moment of pure synergy for me (Gail): Our teaching framework is called Ngā Hoe e Waru - The 8 Paddles of Teaching. It guides everything we do at City First Aid. So when Waka on Avon sought practical and relevant first aid training for their special circumstances, we thought... let's jump in that waka and paddle together and experience what we've been teaching in real time, in a real working space with really cool and capable people!. (Their beautiful tour guide is off camera)

What we learned:

Balance is everything (literally and metaphorically)
One person's movement affects everyone
You have to trust your crew
Communication saves lives
Some situations require you to adapt fast
Moving a patient from a rocking space to shore takes good skill, communication and a solid team work plan!

Massive thanks to Waka on Avon for an amazing day, for teaching us about the whakapapa of this beautiful waka, and for being open to learning how to safely lift a fat old first aid instructor safely to shore 😄 Love your mahi and kaupapa!

I don’t know who you wake up to sitting at your breakfast table, but I’ll take a guess, it’s probably not these guys. Shout out to CFA's compliance manikin cleaning crew of one!
