1.

The MMPO was established by the New Zealand College of Midwives in 1997 to provide its Lead Maternity Carer midwives with a supportive practice management and quality assurance infrastructure and a business framework enabling high quality continuity of care for women throughout Aotearoa, New Zealand. Our Main Functions

We support the sustainability of midwifery practices and maternity services
th

roughout New Zealand by providing a responsive practice management
support service and a midwifery focused electronic practice management
system that enables midwives to meet their service, financial and professional
commitments. We also undertake a variety of projects for the profession, health service
providers, the Ministry of Health, research organisations and communities
that utilize the rich collection of data we manage around the provision of
maternity services in New Zealand by midwives. A standardized, peer reviewed set of maternity notes and series of
individualized reporting templates.

2. Access to and ongoing support for an electronic maternity record and
practice management system incorporating the NZCOM data set and a suite
of reports.

3. A reliable maternity service claiming and payment systems for Lead Maternity
Carer midwives and associated maternity service providers.

4. Support for the role of NZCOM to develop and service the profession by:
• providing aggregated clinical information on midwifery activities and outcomes for benchmarking, research and service monitoring,
• undertaking projects that inform the development of midwifery services,
• collecting relevant maternity outcome data to ensure midwives can review their work against the standards of the profession and help women choosing midwifery led maternity care achieve high quality outcomes.

5. Information for consumers, the profession, LMC midwives and providers of maternity services to enable and support midwives to provide quality, woman focused care.

Tēnā koutou

We have received an update this morning from Health New Zealand outlining the process and timeline for processing payments for the uplift to the Rural Travel Supplement (RPATsS) and Additional Care Supplement (ACS) claims.

Please follow the link to Health New Zealand's website for full details. You will need to expand the December 2024 Update area to read the update, however the main points are highlighted below:

By 17 January 2025

Accepted RPATS claims for services from 1 July will be paid an additional $1.25 per service.
Accepted ACS claims for services from 1 July will be paid based on the new payment criteria. Note, due to the complexity of the ACS changes, the back pay of these claims may be made over two payments.

End of January 2025

The payment calculation for this second payment is an additional payment where the original claim was reduced based on the old CAP values.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Increase to the number of LMC Midwife Standard Emergency Locum Days (for both Urban and Rural Work Settings)

On the 19th of December 2023, I wrote to you advising that access to Covid related emergency locum support for LMC midwives was ending on the 31 December 2023, but that we were negotiating with Te Whatu Ora for an increase in the standard locum supported emergency days from the current annual allocation of 5.

Good news - We are pleased to advise that Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) have just approved an increase of 3 days to the annual allocation of LMC midwife locum supported emergency days effective immediately.

This means that if eligible, you will now be able to access up to 8 locum supported emergency days per annum (previously 5 days).

Please note that we will be updating our systems over the next few days so the increased entitlement may not be visible straightaway, however booking requests for the additional days can be submitted from today.
