Swish & Swirl.
Allow yourself to be mesmerised by the swirling kelp fronds. Kelp is a brown algae and can grow up to 60cm per day in optimal conditions. Nature is incredible.

Kelp forests provide habitats for a wide range of sea life. This one had a big holdfast where is used to attach to the seabed or a rock; I spent some time imagining where it had been secured.

If your week has felt fast, cluttered, or over-scheduled, take a deep breath and let your eyes follow this steady, rhythmic dance.

What is one way you are slowing down this long weekend?

Saturday Seaweed Skipping. On the beach with a string of seaweed and deciding to try some skipping isn’t about perfecting a skill; it’s about dropping the need to look coordinated or have it all figured out.

Where can you drop the need for any level of success or perfection and embrace the awkward first attempts?

Reflecting back on this float therapy session from a few weeks back.

Every so often, I feel drawn towards a float tank session, and this one came after I’d had a particularly full week. It’s an experience that is hard to describe, and each time I find it differs.

For this one, my heartbeat and breath felt strong while my mind stayed completely calm. I quickly fell into a dreamlike state and emerged with a long-lasting “after-float glow”.

Sometimes, a complete sensory timeout is the highest form of nourishment we can give ourselves.

As you head into the long weekend, what kind of nourishment are you giving yourself?

Pause long enough to notice.

Walking along the beach on a grey cloudy day, I paused in a moment of intrigue when I noticed this red petal and feather.

The contrast caught my eye, and then my thoughts turned to how they got there. Were the petals from a bouquet a bride had on the beach, or washed down through stormwater perhaps? I cannot know how they got there.

I looked a little more deeply. Heavy footprints in the sand tell a story of those who had been on the beach before me. That is when I noticed the contrast appear again… between the heavy footprints and the lightness of the feather.

My final smile came when I noticed the sand on the top of the petal, which gave the appearance of a heart shaped petal.

Where can you slow down today and notice the smaller details in a scene?

This micro-block cat figure is a terribly frustrating thing to assemble and it is not yet complete. Started over a week ago, I haven’t been back to it. Every day I walk past it, it’s a constant reminder of its unfinished state.

My frustration in things not fitting together as quickly or easily as I thought they should was a telling reaction.

For something that I set out to do as a bit of fun, this did not deliver on that front. There has been no “cat-isfaction” here! Instead it gave me an insight into my impatience and reactions.

I decided to leave it and maybe come back to it on a day when I had nothing pressing to do….yep, you guessed it - it is still unassembled.

It got me thinking about Wise Ways Wednesday.

Yoga teaches us to sit with discomfort without trying to force a sudden resolution. I still have work to do here and I acknowledge that. The work I do on my mat helps me off my mat.

How do you respond when a situation forces you to slow down and work through the tedious, tiny details? Do you push through, or do you leave it on the table to try again another day?

What makes up your outer glow?

I arrived home just as the sun was setting last night. I stopped as I put my keys in the drawer as my eye was drawn to this scene.

One of my favourite table lamps at home, a spiral light that has different forms depending on the angle it is swivelled. Its shadow in the golden light created more questions for me.

Is this a shadow or an outer glow?

How do I truly show up in the world? Does my light and shadow reflect my internal state?

May your day hold a perfect balance of light, warmth, and reflective space.

Take the stairs and make it mindful.

For this Mindful Movement Monday, challenge yourself to find a flight of stairs and use them to inject a little extra, intentional movement into your day.

Instead of rushing to the top, experiment with how you climb.

Change your pace, step deliberately or vary your stride to awaken different muscle groups. Use the handrail to support you and be safe.

How can you add a little extra movement into your day?

Yesterday, spending the day meeting new people at my stall at the Sol Gatherings event was energising, rewarding, satisfying and tiring all at once.

The beach scene when I arrived home afterwards was very fitting. It reflected the stillness inside me, the contentment I felt, and the need to no longer think or talk.

Walking and watching were just the ticket for the beach walk to be grounded after all the action.

How are you finding a pocket of stillness for yourself today?
