$11,000 raised for Nurse Maude Hospice ⛳

A huge thank you to Greenlight Recruitment who recently hosted a charity golf day and raised an incredible $11,000 in support of Nurse Maude Hospice.

Events like this bring people together for a great cause and help make sure people and whānau across our community receive the compassionate hospice care they need.

We were delighted to welcome Craig and Tim in today to present the cheque and celebrate the success of the day.

Your generosity makes a real difference, and we're incredibly grateful to Greenlight Recruitment and everyone involved for supporting hospice care in Canterbury.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day by honouring the legacy of a remarkable woman who changed healthcare.

In 1896, Sibylla Maude stepped beyond the hospital walls and into the homes of people across Christchurch who were sick and vulnerable. In doing so, she established District Nursing in New Zealand - laying the foundations for modern community healthcare.

Today, more than 1,200 Nurse Maude staff continue that work, with 87% of our workforce being women who provide care, leadership, compassion, and innovation across our services.

From a single district nurse to a community of dedicated professionals - her legacy lives on every day.

Read the full story of Sibylla Maude’s vision and the women continuing her work on our website.

We're proud to be a large, diverse healthcare organisation dedicated to serving our communities across Canterbury, Nelson/Marlborough, and Wellington.

Thank you once again to Farmers and their customers nationwide who supported the Christmas campaign. Nurse Maude is extremely grateful for the donation of $102,829.22 from the local community.

Thousands of people came together this Christmas to support hospice care through Farmers stores across the country, raising an incredible $836,388. Every dollar raised in each Farmers store goes directly to the local hospice, helping ensure compassionate end-of-life care remains free and accessible for families in communities across Aotearoa.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who purchased a Christmas bauble, made a donation, or took a moment to honour a loved one at the Tree of Remembrance. Your generosity is making a real difference.

And a very special thank you to Farmers and their incredible staff for helping raise more than $9.5 million for hospices since 2014. Your ongoing support continues to strengthen palliative care services for patients and whānau, and we are deeply grateful.

Thank you for caring 💙

Today we celebrate the International Day of Care and Support - a day to recognise the compassion, dedication, and hard mahi of of our support workers, hospital aids, and all those who care for others.

At Nurse Maude, our mission is to provide care and support to people in their own homes, and in the community that enables people to live with dignity, independence, and comfort. This mission simply wouldn’t be possible without the people who show up every day to lend a hand, offer reassurance, and make sure those in their care feel valued and respected.

To our incredible Nurse Maude team - thank you for making a difference every single day. Your care, kindness, and commitment touch lives across our community and make our mission possible. 💙

What is it like to live in Aotearoa knowing you’re dying?

Hospice New Zealand’s Dying Reviews project asked people in their final phase of life - and the whānau caring for them - how our country treats them.

Across more than 500 reviews, they rated New Zealand 3.28 out of 5 stars. Some stories are full of care and kindness. Others reveal that some systems that make dying harder than it needs to be.

Nurse Maude believes that compassion should be built into every system, not left to chance.

Read the first 500 reviews, on Hospice NZ – Living Every Moment's post below:

The reviews are in: Dying in Aotearoa

For the first time, New Zealanders who are dying, or caring for someone who is – have shared reviews of how everyday organisations treat them. Not just hospitals or rest homes, but banks, supermarkets, telcos, government agencies, workplaces, and more.

- The national score: 3.28 out of 5.
- Government agencies received the lowest rating (2.5).
- Restaurants and events came out on top (4.55).

Some reviews are heartbreaking.

“They told my dying husband to come in and sign a form. It was the last time he left the house.”
.others show how simple acts of kindness make a huge difference.

“I was treated with kindness and empathy. They made a very difficult situation feel a little bit easier.”

This is the reality for thousands of New Zealanders every year. And it’s why Hospice New Zealand created Dying Reviews – a world-first project giving people in the final stages of life, and their whānau, a voice.

Our hope is simple: that this sparks a national conversation and inspires change – so compassion becomes standard, not the exception.

Because how we treat people at the end of life says everything about who we are as a society.

What stands out is not only what needs fixing, but also what’s already working. Some organisations are showing the way - fast-tracking claims, accepting scanned documents, simplifying processes, showing flexibility. These acts remind us it is possible to build systems around dignity, not just efficiency.
