ABOUT
The Colville Project is a community-led project which aims to create a Northern Coromandel Peninsula that is a thriving place to live, work and play across your lifespan. The Colville Project will provide facilities for a well-being and education Centre (health area, community services, library, op shop...), housings and recreational area. The Project grew from strategic consideration of the wider needs of the remote, rural communities of the Northern Coromandel Peninsula, and has undergone extensive community consultation, demonstrating strong support. A feasibility study (2017), which included consultation with a range of key stakeholders, found the Project “a feasible solution to the identified demographic and isolation needs in the area." The Colville Project is a four-stage project, which has a formal Concept Design (Beca, 2019); and has completed a geotechnical assessment and factual report (Beca, 2021), on land the Trust has purchased in 2022. The Colville Community Health Trust (CCHT) has been working for over 8 years to build a targeted health facility in Colville Village. In partnership with Colville Social Services Collective/Colville Junction, The Colville Project Trust has been created to run de projet. We want thriving and engaged communities in the remote rural Northern Coromandel Peninsula. The Colville Project will work to address issues of inequality and opportunity by:
Providing fit-for-purpose facilities to ensure our remote rural communities (and the
thousands that visit here), have ongoing access to a wide range of medical, social,
education and training services and resources; and robust connectivity.
Facilitating housing choices which support people to remain in and/or return to
their own community, despite circumstance.
Providing children and young people with options ‘now’ and into their future.
Growing opportunities for community development, including employment.
Positively contributing to rural health practice across Aotearoa by strengthening the
local provision of training opportunities for trainee health professionals.
Ensuring whatever we do is flexible enough to remain as beneficial and constructive
assets for our communities into the future. WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO? We believe in communities determining their own futures. To date our communities have raised over $1million towards the Project. We need to keep this momentum going. Further fundraising and investment is essential, and our plan includes options for philanthropic, investors and fundraising, and building meaningful relationships and partnerships that align with our Project’s values.
