Today, I followed one of those quiet inner nudges and I found myself attending a free-form dance session in a local community space. I didn’t know anyone there, and I wasn’t entirely sure why I was going… but something deeper in me knew it was time to move.
It was a small gathering—just a handful of us in the room—but there was something sacred in the simplicity. No choreography. No expectations. Just open space, music and an invitation to move in whatever way felt true.
Half of us were there for the first time, each one of us showing up with quiet courage. We had all arrived as strangers, yet we shared something wordless from the beginning: the willingness to listen inwardly, to move through whatever was ready to rise and to let ourselves be seen—not in a performative way, but in our raw, expressive presence.
For me, the experience became something much deeper than just dancing.
As I allowed myself to move freely, I began to feel layers of stored emotion surface in my body—tension I didn’t know I was carrying, grief that had gone unspoken and moments of joy that had nowhere to land until now. I gave myself full permission to move through it all.
At times I danced with emotion. Other times I danced with silence.
There was a profound sense of safety in the space that allowed me to drop beneath the surface and tune in to my own rhythm. I wasn’t dancing 'for' anyone. I was expressing something from within me that didn’t need words. The movement became release. It became prayer. It became a way back to myself.
By the end, I felt lighter, more in tune, more connected, more present in my body.
And looking around the room, I could feel that others had experienced their own version of that too. Each person moved through their own process with quiet grace. It felt like a shared threshold had been crossed—separately and together.
Sometimes we’re guided to spaces that don’t make immediate sense, but hold exactly what our spirit is asking for. This was one of those moments.
And I’m so grateful I listened.
