If you follow my stories you would have seen these beauties from Central Otago Flower Farm] which have become a regular Friday addition to the roadside honey shop and we are so thrilled to have them.
Each week the flowers and colours are fresh in their signature whimsical style. They really do bring joy ✨

Central Otago Flower Farm]
Each week the ingredients vying for my attention to be picked changes slightly depending on the weather, seasons and when I originally germinated my seeds.

I never know exactly what I will have available and if it will all go together until it finally flowers. That is the fun, you can make all the plans you want but nature has the last say each week as to what ingredients I have to play with for my bunches.

I stalk the cutting and homestead gardens and pick what is best in bloom that week to make my bunches, hand selecting based on shape and form, texture and colours, hoping I will have enough of the key blooms to go together and if not I have to stretch my creativity and hope it works, that is often when you discover new unexpected combinations you may never have tried together if you were not forced to.

The end result is casual fresh clutches with a plucked straight from the garden vibe full of different characters to keep you company during the week.

You can order bunches of flowers or mixed bundles of material for your creativity by emailing hello@thejoyfarmer.com or pick up bunches most weekends from honey shed in Cromwell.

Hi! 👋
I’ve been away for a bit, but it happens in Spring as the honey season gets underway and my lovely other half ( the beekeeper) works crazy hours with all the other beekeepers, and life becomes more of a juggle…

Keeping the honey shed clean and stocked up, along with packing up the online orders and fulfilling the wholesale orders has been keeping me busy, especially as we head towards the Christmas season 🎄

I thought I would just share one of my weekly highlights that really has been so lovely ( you might have seen it in my stories 💐🌷🌸), and that has been working with the talented Sarah to bring local flowers to Cromwell each Friday.
These have been incredibly popular and we are both so grateful for the community support! ✨

I’ve managed to sneak away for a visit North to spend some precious time with my parents in our family home on the orchard.

Quite the change of scene from the wintry Central Otago hills, with daffodils out, bees buzzing around the garden and the Tuki tuki river rolling by.

My outdoor office includes sunshine, birdsong, countless cups of peppermint tea and true to form I found a fig and honey brownie from the figgery across the river. My new favourite place, I will definitely call in again to stock up on all things figgy before I head back South ☺️

Forage & Gold honey is a family honey business, and with my roots firmly planted in the honey industry a lot of my regular customers here in Cromwell find it rather amusing that I am extremely allergic to bees!
I have been around here long enough to know what not to do to cause unnecessary attention from bees, and one thing I see when bees approach people (especially kids) is for them to flick the bees away… DON’T do that, just calmly move yourself away and you’re way less likely to fall victim to a sting!

Start with cheese, add honey and drizzle ✨

Such a tasty combo and just what we're craving after our dreary winter's day in the South where we managed a high of 6 degrees 🙄 ❄🍯

Our drizzle pick is the crowd fav, nectar from the wildflower Viper's Bugloss, it is delicate and sweet with the perfect amount of tang 🐝

I think fresh figs pair so perfectly with cheese and a drizzle of honey and since I did purchase a rather large box from Old Road Estate last week, it meant there were plenty for this yummy ( honey, fig and cheese) Autumn salad for our family dinner on Sunday.

The salad was super simple, a few generous handfuls of rocket, plenty of juicy figs sliced on top, a handful of thyme-honey caramelized walnuts, with crumbled goat cheese and a (Viper's bugloss) honey balsamic dressing.

Thyme-honey caramelized walnuts for one medium salad:

In a small fry pan melt together 1 tbsp of butter with 1 tbsp of Thyme honey on med-low heat. Add a big handful of chopped walnuts, a generous grind of black pepper and 1/4 tsp salt and stir together while bubbling for a few minutes until thick and caramelized. Cool on a piece of baking paper and enjoy as a yummy snack or add to salad. 🍯

Honey balsamic dressing:

This is a sweet and tangy dressing that pairs perfectly with salads containing fruit.

1/4 cup olive oil
2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1, 1/2 tbsp of Vipers bugloss honey
Salt and pepper to taste

Add ingredients to an empty Forage & Gold honey jar, put the lid on and shake well. 💃

Today I had the privilege of hosting this beautiful group of women in my home for a sweet honey tasting experience.
We were first stop on their itinerary for the day, as part of an immersive travel-tour of Central Otago with Natasha from Crafted Journeys.
After visiting some local hives with beekeeper Tim, and a peak inside the extracting shed, it was time to dig into a fresh frame of Viper’s bugloss honeycomb and a chance to taste each of our Central Otago honeys and pair them with cheese, crackers, nuts and fruit. Washed down with a healthy brew of thyme, ginger and lemon tea, it was smiles all round with Thyme honey proving quite the fav! 🏅👌🐝🍯

Introducing Forage & Gold

Introducing Forage & Gold, 100% Pure New Zealand Honey

What started out as a journey to create more sustainable packaging has led to a complete rebrand. I wanted our honey to have an appeal wider than this region, and with the same great taste, Lindis Gold is now Forage & Gold.

This year has been a year that has brought many challenges for small businesses. I wanted to take it as an opportunity to educate people about the power of honey for amplifying food, tell the story of where our honey comes from and why pure is important, and provide a system that reduces impact as much as I possibly can.

With a goal to provide you with more delicious recipe ideas, suggestions on replacing refined sugars and using healthy honey every day, Forage & Gold Honey will embrace everything I love about this NZ natural superfood, while providing customers with the option to return their jars for reuse. Check out our new website here... Thank you for your support so far, Zoe Wood
