Important Details Regarding 12-Month Prescriptions Starting February 1st, 2026:
1) Eligibility for 12-month prescriptions will vary among individuals.
2) Certain medications are not eligible for 12-month prescription periods.
3) Prescriptions must be processed within the first three months to qualify for available funding, except for controlled substances which have a 7-day limit.
4) Prescriptions are valid for 12 months from the date written, after which no further dispensing can occur.
5) The $5 fee per item applies, with a $100 cap per family over a 12-month period (February to February), noting that payment is due upon collection of the first dispensing from each new prescription. ( over 65, community services card and under 14 still free).
6) A maximum of three months' supply of medication is allowed, with the exception of oral contraceptives.
7) Many medications will continue to be prescribed on a monthly basis.
