โš ๏ธ EMERGENCY MOBILE ALERT TEST THIS SUNDAY ๐Ÿ“ฒ

Heads up! NZ Civil Defence are testing the Emergency Mobile Alert (EMA) system on Sunday, 25 May, between 6 and 7 p.m.

We know the last test startled a few people (us included), so we're sharing this early in case loud alerts or sudden noise might be unsettling for you or someone in your whฤnau.

If you have a hidden phone for your safety, NZ Police recommend turning it off or switching it to flight mode before 6 p.m. Some phones will still make a loud sound even when set to silent.

More info, including FAQs and a helpful factsheet, is available at ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://getready.govt.nz/prepared/ema

๐Ÿ‘ถ CALLING ALL EXPECTING & NEW PARENTS! ๐Ÿ‘ถ

Angelique Tucker, a midwife with 18 years of experience, is working on her master's research projectโ€”and she needs your help!

The title of her project is 'The Impact of Social Media on Decision-Making in Pregnancy'.

Angelique would love to hear from you if you're in your last three months of pregnancy or the first three months of parenting. Your discussion will explore:

๐Ÿ“ฑ How social media influences decision-making during this crucial time
๐Ÿ’ฌ What topics it impacts
๐Ÿ” How do you determine if the information is reliable
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ How you feel about discussing these topics with your Lead Maternity Carer (LMC)

Please email Angelique at researchmidwife2024@gmail.com to learn more.

๐Ÿ“ข INCREASE IN PERTUSSIS (WHOOPING COUGH) CASES โš ๏ธ

Unfortunately, over the past two months, we've seen a significant rise in pertussis (whooping cough) cases across all age groups.

Pertussis can be especially severe for our pฤ“pi (babies), often requiring hospital care and can tragically be fatal. Here's how to reduce your risk:

๐Ÿ‘ถ PREGNANT PEOPLE

We strongly recommend getting the free Boostrix vaccination during each pregnancy, starting from the second trimester (16 weeks onwards). This vaccine is 92% effective in preventing infant death from pertussis.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ WHฤ€NAU

Ensure everyone in your extended whฤnau, including infants, children, and older adults, is up-to-date with their immunisations โ€” especially pertussis boosters. Vaccination is funded for ages 9-13, 45, and 65. Some whฤnau also choose to privately purchase a booster if they are expecting a newborn baby.

๐Ÿ“… BABIES

Ensure your pฤ“pi receive their 6-week immunisations on time.

Let's work together to protect our community and our precious tamariki. Vaccination is our best defence against pertussis.

Stay safe, stay healthy.

๐ŸŒŸTHE BIG LATCH ON 2024 ๐ŸŒŸ

The Big Latch On aims to support parents' feeding journeys by creating safe and accepting spaces. It allows parents to connect with and meet new friends and receive support and information from local services. ๐Ÿค—

You can attend a local event (https://www.womens-health.org.nz/blo/big-latch-on-2024/find-an-event/) or participate online with a . ๐Ÿ“ธ
