Meet our resident Podiatrist, Tanya Maze, an experienced New Zealand–trained podiatrist with a diverse clinical background across Aotearoa and Australia. Originally from Alexandra in Central Otago, she completed her Bachelor of Health Science (Podiatry) at Auckland University of Technology. She began her career by establishing her first practice, Footprint Podiatry Otago Ltd, providing care to her hometown community.
With a strong personal history in sport — including netball, rowing, athletics, and basketball — Tanya has long held a keen interest in biomechanics and lower-limb function. She has developed broad clinical experience through roles in Tauranga, Western Australia, and Dunedin, including time working under podiatric surgeon Mr Paul Armanasco at the South West Foot & Ankle Centre, where she gained valuable exposure to complex surgical cases.
Tanya later continued her professional development at Dunedin Podiatry alongside Richard van Plateringen, further refining her skills in sport, rehabilitation, manual therapies, and biomechanical analysis.
From our clinic, Tanya provides evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of foot and lower-limb concerns, with experience in:
• Biomechanical and musculoskeletal assessment
• Sports podiatry
• Orthotic modification & manufacture
Her biomechanical focus complements her wider musculoskeletal skillset, supporting patients from everyday walkers to recreational and competitive athletes.
Tanya is known for her approachable, empathetic style and ability to build rapport with patients of all ages. She connects naturally with children, young people, adults, and older members of the community.
Her philosophy is grounded in:
• Listening well
• Understanding patients’ goals
• Working collaboratively to achieve the best possible outcomes
She values the stories her patients share and believes every appointment is an opportunity to learn, educate, and empower.
A devoted mum, Tanya enjoys supporting her children’s activities, spending time in her garden, and exploring beaches, hills, and trails around Dunedin, Central Otago, and the Catlins. She loves time spent on her family’s Alexandra farm with her nieces and nephews and appreciates the easy access to nature that comes with living in the South.
Tanya is passionate about helping people stay active, mobile, and empowered — supporting them to return to the activities that give them confidence, comfort, and joy.
Tanya is based from our Centre City clinic, Thursday's 8-5pm.
