It cant hurt right??

I want one!!! That is the most popular comment when I see a new massage gun, popping silver pencil, digging tools, scratchy tools and basically anything else we can scrape, dig, prod, poke or vibrate so much the horses teeth rattle so much they risk falling out, not one comment asking can it hurt, where is the research to back some pretty big claims up, or simply does my horse even need it.

I normally just wait for the hype to die down, or until something new and shiny comes out yet with social media anyone can pick up a tool and within minutes influence a sleuth of sales without a clue to what they are doing or the delicate structures they may be affecting

I watched a huge influencer proceed to jam a tool into the horses calcaneus tendon saying she was working the hamstrings and if that wasnt enough then proceeded to dig thumbs into the tendon, pop the tendon across back and forth saying it was a tight muscle, all the while the horse held its leg up probably praying that she would just bloody stop poking.

Why do we jab horses with our fingers, with our hands and declare yep your horse is sore 🤔 of course it bloody is you have just ran your talon down its spine, would we react??? Say you were just minding your own business and along i came with no warning and grabbed the base of your neck, stuck my fingers in your ribs then tried to make you "relax" and trust i wouldn't do it again all the while not communicating what I was doing, yep I agree you would probably lock the door and ring the police 🙃.

The poor horse of course just stood there because most people forget if a horse cant get away it rarely fights especially if has failed to get rid of silver popping pokey finger previously it will just put up and shut up and thats the reason why we can keep doing this stuff again and again

It's not therapeutic for a horse to feel pain induced by a therapist, we may want to walk away with bruises and bright red skin to feel we have got our monies worth but again I would not go within 10 feet of a therapsit who tells you pain is a pathway to healing when its their hands causing the pain.

Can we not buy the latest 18 setting alien spaceship looking massage gun because the advert said it cured a horse who was laminitic yet 400 sessions and 2 years later using the new fangled machine cured it 😊

Of course the woman is an expert in absolutely everything and probably a new shiny tool will be dug in the horse next week and hey like pin the tail on a donkey they may actually get a muscle this time

Below is the best grooming tool you can buy your horse, which is another horse 😅😅 trust me i am an expert and I said its ok to buy another horse 😃

Welfare PSA! After my "natural horsemanship" training, I promoted the use of rope halters. After years and years of rope halter use, a friend of mine showed me this article. There are two spots on the horse's neck and poll where the spinal cord is NOT protected by bone. This is the Myodural Bridge. Both of these spots are where halters and bridles commonly sit. Excessive pressure can cause irreversable damage. Upon learning this my heart sank for all the times I've yanked on a rope halter or saw someone else yank on this area or hard tie a horse. I'm throwing away all of my rope halters. They will be replaced with flat breakaway leather with fleece covers.

We are always growing and changing and that is the best we can offer the horse. We learn and we do better. Please share.
