I started taking Vit D3 last year after I read of a book about menopause by . I’ve also now lived here in Ōtepoti for three winters and I know how low our sun exposure gets during hibernation.
Having adequate vitD has been shown to improve absorption of calcium in the intestine, so it’s super important for maintaining strong bone density.

That’s good for when you get older and are more susceptible to falls-we want to keep those hips, ribs and vertebrae in one piece. It’s particularly important for women, but honestly anyone who is living in areas of low sun and is of a smaller stature (less weight on bone = less bone density). SO anyway, now I’m stocking it!

P.S don’t forget to build muscle with strength training 😘

Ok back on the sharing about the things!
The 1% Local Impact Donation went to Susan & Rob for Dunedin Community House.
They have meeting rooms for local not-for-profits (check them out!) and a very handy JP to sign all of your important forms.
They’re also very very friendly and will welcome new folk in with big smiles and a hug if you want it.
Little plug for them- they have some office rooms available for rent 👩🏽‍💻

🇦🇪 The 1% for the last 3 months has gone to the Children of Gaza Unicef Fund. It took me a while to deide on where this would be best placed, as there is so much need.
🇦🇪 If you're keen to get some more local action happening to help out, you can volunteer with the Dunein Branch of the Red Cross to assist Palestinian Refugees settle into their new surroundings here in Ōtepoti.
🇦🇪 Maybe you want to donate more to help tamariki in Gaza? Check out .consciousdesign to buy a Faqqua Iris top made right here in Ōtepoti, with proceeds going to PCRF.

🌴 If we’ve met, you probably know I’m not a fan of worshipping the grind- So here’s your heads up! I’m taking a lil break.
My last day in the clinic will be Thursday the 21st of December, and the doors will be back open on Monday 8th January. YAY!
Please don’t hurt yourselves, and if you’re doing something fun and strenuous it’s always a good idea to say hello to your core and glutes first, even just by doing some balance work beforehand.
I hope Hine Raumati shines for you all, and that I still have fingertips after a week of rock climbing in Tākaka 🧗🏽‍♀Ka kite anō ki a koutou xx

Our 1% local impact donation went to the Tomahawk Smails Beachcare Community Nursery.
THEY'RE SO GREAT!
For the last 20 years, they've been propagating native plants to restore biodiversity to these areas in the dunes- WHich you can explore yourself when going for a surf at Smails or walking the Karetai Track.

I haven't decided on anyone for November's donation yet- so please get in touch if you know of some awesome people doing a great thing.

Hey great people (Sorry not spine content)
I've been dabbling in a bit of community gardening at the Bathgate School, and they've just started up a more regular working bee system. Please head along to the bees if you're free during that time- it's got so much potential and just needs some aroha.

I had the absolute joy of meeting Carla from Give to Grow Ōtepoti today.
Give to Grow Ōtepoti is an organisation still in the early stages of being set up. They distribute gardening tools (generally via restoring secondhand and redistributing ) to help locals get their māra kai set up at home. They have a FB page, so check them out if you are keen on tools or to help them out 🍏

Chuffed to be able to support with the March 1% Local Impact Donation.
These Whitu cards started off as a project developed by students studying at the University of Otago. They were so epic, that they are now distributing them to schools across Aotearoa so that students can broaden their te reo and other aspects of te ao māori that the cards help to introduce.

March has been distracting, I'm well behind on sharing about our 1% Local Impact Donation.
Last month it went to the golden folks at Ōtepoti Fruit Harvest🍎
You can volunteer as a picker, learn to preserve (check out their fruit-preserving workshop this weekend), or you can volunteer your trees to be picked.
Big fan.
