Here you are, dripping milk, all ready for your baby to feed – but he won’t! If you have a newborn, there is every chance you will be ‘woman handled’ as somebody tries to get your baby to latch by grabbing baby and b**b and shoving them together (if this happens, put your hand up in a stop s...

“Yes, I feed my child to sleep”,
And “No, I do not care”,
If in the eyes of others,
It means ‘dependency’ is there.

For, of course they are dependant,
Sure, we are the world to them.
And, if he wakes another time,
I’ll feed him yet again.

As the comfort that it gives him,
Is a privilege I bear.
And I’ll continue to soothe him,
While his need for me is there.💙

Mama’s milk doesn’t turn into water overnight on your little ones first birthday 💜

This study looked at 800 mothers in Finland. The study found that the greater diversity of green space the parent had around their environment, the greater diversity of oligosaccharides they had in their breastmilk. Oligosaccharides are special sugars in milk which feed helpful bacteria in the gut and help to remove pathogenic bacteria. We know they are also absorbed into the bloodstream from the gut and support the immune system. Oligosaccharides are very important in milk - they make up 0ver 10% of the volume and over 200 different varieties have been found so far.

I think this is fascinating. It makes sense that if we live in a more diverse nature and microbial environment, our milk will start to prepare our baby for that diverse environment. Getting out in nature isn’t just good for our health, it’s good for our nursling too.

The study lead author said, “This could indicate that increased everyday contacts with nature could be beneficial for breastfeeding mothers and their children as the oligosaccharide composition of breastmilk would become more diverse. The results imply that breastfeeding could have a mediating role between residential green environments and health in infancy".

Totally normal unless baby is struggling with weight gain- you are their happy place ❤️

It’s biologically normal for your baby to fall asleep while nursing.
Being in your arms & feeding fulfills their most basic needs for food, warmth and safety and creates the perfect environment for them to doze off.

If you feel your baby is overly sleepy and not breastfeeding effectively as a result, you can find some helpful information in the article linked below or contact your local LLL Leader for support.
