These are the most obvious signs that your pelvic health isn’t at its best.

I often hear “my pelvic floor is strong so I’ll be fine in labour”… 💨 but does it stretch? 🤸‍♂️

Pelvic floor plays a large role in va**nal deliveries.

We know a pelvic floor muscle that is able to lengthen appropriately is

1. Less likely to be sustain trauma
2. Less likely to need instrumental delivery
3. Can reduce time in second stage labour
4. Can recover better post birth
5. Can be better for baby positioning to engage the fetal head.

All these factors can also reduce your risk of post birth faecal incontinence and prolapse 🙌🏻

So have you checked your pelvic floor is primed and ready for it’s peak performance?

Are there options?

There is a lot to think about when deciding on your birth plan…. 💭

From a pelvic floor perspective most women will be advised on the possible risks associated with birth in a generic nature 📚

For example - the risk for sustaining an obstetric a**l sphincter injury (OASI) is 5% on average, however if you are of south Asian or India descent it can be as high as 10% .

If you are someone who would like to know your specific risks and have a tailored treatment program to improve your specific birth outcomes then I can help 💕

There is strong evidence for Pelvic physiotherapy during pregnancy to reduce the risk of sustaining an OASI, developing faecal & urinary incontinence, shortening the second stage of labour, and minimizing Pelvic floor trauma.

Your risk factors are individual and should be looked at in this way to optimize your birth 👶🏼

If you would like a full risk screening and individualized pre natal program to improve your birth outcomes get in touch ✨

Feeling heavy? Leaking towards the end of a walk? Noticing things feel a little bit different?

Maybe your va**na needs a little more support. Naturally the tissues in the va**na and pelvic cavity get stretched during va**na birth or from chronic constipation.

Just like wearing and ankle brace, we can support the pelvic organs by providing extra support with the use of a pessary.

One of the most common questions I get asked is how do they work and how will it fit.

This amazing image from Cambridge University shows how the ring pessary supports the bladder and uterus to reduce prolapse or urinary incontinence symptoms.

I fit this often and once in correctly they can really be life changing.

Come ask me about them and feel your best! 💪🏻

Bladder training teaches us how to hold more urine in our bladders and thus reduces the number of times we need to pass urine. This is a first line treatment for overactive bladders and urge urinary incontinence (combined with pelvic floor exercises). It’s is important to make sure this is combined with healthy bladder habits.

If you suffer from urgency or urinary incontinence give us a call or DM.
