We’re excited to welcome a new LMC to the Mountain Midwives team 💛

Fiona will be joining us on the ground from June, and you’ll start to see her friendly face around our community. Coming from Auckland, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we’re so happy to have her here.

Fiona is now accepting bookings for full LMC care from June. She is already fully booked for October, but currently has availability for November and December.

like the rest of our team, Fiona will also be providing labour and birth care in Invercargill.

For those who are already pregnant and planning to birth out of area, she is offering the opportunity to provide you with labour and birth care.

What this could look like:

If you are currently under the care of an LMC who does not travel to Invercargill, you can reach out to Fiona to meet and discuss your labour and birth plans. If it feels like the right fit, when you go into labour and are assessed by your LMC as per your care plan, you can then contact Fiona.

She will travel to Invercargill to support your labour and birth, so you have a familiar, supportive face there advocating for you.

Once you return home to Queenstown, you also have the option of a one-off debrief with Fiona to go over your birth experience. Your ongoing care will then continue with your original LMC.

This service will be available from June through to October.

Hi everyone, I’m Kaitlin — one of the midwives here at Mountain Midwives 🤍

I’m really proud to share that I am the Queenstown lead for Miscarriage Matters NZ. This is something very close to my heart, and I’m passionate about making sure whānau in our community feel seen, supported, and cared for during pregnancy loss.

Living in Queenstown, we know how important it is to have local, accessible support. Loss can feel incredibly isolating — especially in smaller or transient communities — and having something tangible, like a care package, can make a small but meaningful difference during such a difficult time.

Through Miscarriage Matters NZ, we are able to provide thoughtfully put-together care packages for those who have experienced miscarriage or pregnancy loss 🤍

All midwives within Mountain Midwives can provide these to the families they care for. If you are under our care, please reach out to your midwife at any time.

Wider community: If you or someone you know has experienced a loss and would benefit from a care package, you are also very welcome to contact me directly:
📧 midwifekaitlin@gmail.com

Midwives in the wider community are also welcome to get in touch with me to organise a package for someone in their care.

We see you, we acknowledge your loss, and we are here to support you — always 🤍

💧 Why Antenatal Aqua Fitness is amazing in Pregnancy 💙

Looking for a safe, effective, and feel-good way to stay active during pregnancy? Antenatal water-based exercise is one of the best options out there — and we love seeing our wāhine supported through programmes like QLDC Sport & Recreation antenatal aqua fitness 🙌

✨ Why it’s so beneficial:
• Supports your body – Water buoyancy can reduce body weight by up to 90%, taking pressure off joints, pelvis, and back
• Eases aches and pains – Many women notice relief from pelvic girdle pain, swelling, and general discomfort
• Improves circulation – Helps reduce fluid retention and can support blood flow back to the heart
• Builds strength safely – Gentle resistance from the water helps maintain muscle tone without strain
• Boosts fitness & endurance – Supporting your body through pregnancy, labour, and recovery
• Mental wellbeing – Movement + water = a powerful stress reliever 💆‍♀️

💡 Did you know?
• Exercising in water helps regulate body temperature, making it a safer option during pregnancy
• Aqua exercise can improve sleep quality and reduce fatigue
• Staying active in pregnancy is linked with shorter labours and reduced intervention rates

🤍 Who is it for?
Aqua fitness is suitable for all stages of pregnancy and can be easily adapted to your comfort and fitness level.

If you’re wanting a gentle, supportive way to move your body and connect with others in pregnancy, this is a beautiful option to explore.

Why The Village NZ?

"At The Village NZ, we recognise the critical role of community in promoting social wellbeing and psychological health.

Research shows that lack of community and social support can take a toll on mental health and overall wellbeing, leading to decreased engagement and participation. That is why we believe in the power of supporting the mum with genuine intergenerational relationships and providing meaningful resources and support.

We’re dedicated to creating a place where people effortlessly connect with each other. We believe that every mum deserves the support they need to raise healthy and happy children. By creating an accessible and empowering community, we hope to make this a reality for parents everywhere."
