On Monday, it was a privilege to have Addie Couch-Snow bless our building before MP Miles Anderson and MP James Meager joined the partners and invited guests to officially open the Geraldine Health Hub.

This building houses Tarahaoa Health and Four Peaks Dental. In the new year, the 3 consult rooms and the meeting spaces will be available to hire. We are currently working on the website and booking system to enable the use of these spaces.

At a time when costs keep rising, Thompson Construction Engineering Precast delivered this building on time and under budget. For this, we are extremely grateful.

A community project like this only happens with the true heroes who support by investing both time and finance. The partners Community Trust of Mid & South Canterbury & 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, the corporate and private donors who gifted to the foundation, to the Geraldine Licensing Trust who provided the seed funding loan when the property was purchased initially from the Geraldine Town & Country Club.

This building will benefit Geraldine long after all involved have moved on. The profits will be returned to the community through granting or further investment.

I was thrilled to open the new Geraldine Health Hub on Monday with my friend and colleague James Meager MP. A true community project that everyone involved can be proud of.

Thank you to everyone who came through the open day on Saturday.

Trustees of both partners Community Trust of Mid & South Canterbury and 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 were there to welcome special guests and the public to show them through the building before our tenants begin operating over the next few months.

As much as there was an intention to take photos throughout the day, we missed that opportunity, but more importantly did get to speak to our wonderful community about this project.

Below are some photos kindly provided by . Go and read the article in the latest edition.

It is also important to share that this building is 100% community owned.

The Geraldine District Foundation have raised their share from The Geraldine Licensing Trust along with funding from Mackenzie Charitable Foundation, Geraldine Community Board, Geraldine Anzac Commemoration Trust, Timaru District Council, Lotto Community Grants, Pub Charity, Geraldine District Lioness Lions Club, Thomas Hobson Trust, The Geraldine Town & Country Club, Bidwell Trust, Rylstone Trust, Mt Peel Station, Geraldine Auto Restorations and several local private donors.

They are still raising $250,000 to enable the Geraldine community to own 50%. If you would like to donate you can give to their Givealittle page https://givealittle.co.nz/org/geraldine-district-foundation

This is the first social investment by Community Trust of Mid & South Canterbury which will benefit the Geraldine district for many years to come.

Furniture is being purchased for the community consult rooms and meeting spaces, the signage will be complete over the next few weeks and we will keep you informed about when the community spaces will be open.

Once upon a time.... Isn't that how every story starts?

It all began with a vision to build a fit for purpose Health Centre for the Geraldine Community back in 2019.

Like-minded people working together.

The Geraldine Licensing Trust signed a Sale & Purchase Agreement to purchase the Geraldine Town & Country Club building and then set up the Geraldine District Foundation (GDF). A Memorandum of Understanding was formed, and the property transferred to the GDF, and from there the project began with the intention to build a Health Centre.

The seed funding was instrumental in kick starting this journey and what a credit this facility will be for the Geraldine Community in the years ahead.

Notwithstanding this, the dedication of the three local GDF Trustees Jimmy Wallace, Rosie Morten and Wayne O'Donnell who secured further funding from The Geraldine Licensing Trust along with funding from Mackenzie Charitable Foundation, Geraldine Community Board, Geraldine Anzac Commemoration Trust, Timaru District Council, Lotto Community Grants, Pub Charity, Geraldine District Lioness Lions Club, Thomas Hobson Trust, The Geraldine Town & Country Club, Bidwell Trust, Rylstone Trust, Mt Peel Station, Geraldine Auto Restorations and several local private donors.

Then GDF applied for a grant from the Community Trust Mid & South Canterbury (CTMSC) in 2021.

That's where a new journey began as CTMSC was looking for impact investment opportunities and this was perfect.

So - after some time of working together it was agreed GDF & CTMSC become partners in the project, then the Geraldine Health Limited Partnership Agreement was signed. This would allow the build to progress so much sooner.

CTMSC continues to grant money out into the Community and this investment has no effect on grant funding. A win win!!

Geraldine District Foundation is still raising funds, so if you would like to talk to them send a private message and we can share their contact details.

Isn't it great to live in a community that believes in it's future. A shout out to all who have been part of the journey thus far.

It may be chilly outside. But the team from Thompson Construction Engineering Precast are working hard to get the new Geraldine Health Hub completed by early October.

Recently Kenny and his team from Four Peaks Dental look a sneak peek at their new premises.

It's getting exciting!!!!

Did you know that apart from the new doctors surgery and the dental surgery there are 3 consultation rooms and two meeting spaces that will be available for community organizations.

Tell us what health gaps you see in Geraldine and we will share information on the space available to those people/places in the hope that they might bring their services to our community.

This is community project partnership between Community Trust of Mid & South Canterbury & Geraldine District Foundation.

We will share the story of how this partnership came about and how an idea and vision began a journey. Far to much for one little post.
