We've got some hot weather coming this weekend e te whānau! 🥵

Pēpi and tamariki overheat much faster than us adults, but we've got the advice to keep cool over on our website https://www.plunket.org.nz/caring-for-your-child/safety-outdoors/heat-and-dehydration/

If you'd rather talk to someone, PlunketLine nurses are only a free phone call away on 0800 933 922. They're here 24/7 to answer any questions about heat and dehydration 💧

If you use Nestlé’s Alfamino infant formula for babies with milk allergies please check the details from MPI around five batches that have been recalled.

Please note that the affected imported products are not available in supermarkets. They are mainly publicly funded and available through hospitals, pharmacies, and GPs. A small amount could have been bought over the counter at pharmacies or online.

Read more below.

New Zealand Food Safety, Pharmac, and the Ministry of Health are supporting Nestlé in its recall of 5 batches of Alfamino infant formula for babies with milk allergies due to the potential presence of cereulide – a toxin produced by the microorganism Bacillus cereus, which can cause gastrointestinal illness.

The affected batches of Alfamino 400g are:
* batch number 51070017Y2, use-by date 17.04.2027
* batch number 51080017Y1, use-by date 18.04.2027
* batch number 51480017Y3, use-by date 28.05.2027
* batch number 51490017Y1, use-by date 29.05.2027
* batch number 52030017Y1, use-by date 22.07.2027.

For full details visit: https://www.mpi.govt.nz/food-safety-home/food-recalls-and-complaints/recalled-food-products/nestle-brand-alfamino-infant-formula-0-12-months-recalled-due-to-the-possible-presence-of-cereulide

The affected imported products are not available in supermarkets. They are mainly publicly funded and available through hospitals, pharmacies, and GPs. A small amount could have been bought over the counter at pharmacies or online.

Customers are asked to check the batch and date mark on the bottom of the tin.

Affected product should not be consumed. There have been no reports of associated illness but if your child has consumed this product and you have any concerns about their health, seek medical advice.

Alternative formula options are available and funded in New Zealand. Contact your healthcare professional for advice on an alternative if you have been prescribed one of the batches listed.

For parents and guardians with affected batches and no alternative infant formula for tonight and tomorrow, please contact Healthline, which can help.

Cereulide toxin is extremely heat resistant – preparing formula with hot water would not eliminate it.

Symptoms include severe or persistent vomiting, diarrhoea, or unusual lethargy, which would typically appear between 30 minutes and 6 hours after exposure.

If you have any concerns about your baby’s health, contact your healthcare provider, or call Healthline on 0800 611 116 for free advice.

There’s nothing quite like some water to cool off in the hot summer sun! 💧
No matter how big or deep the body of water is, water fun needs active supervision - stay close and keep watch. Finished playing? Tip it out. Every time. 🏊

Christmas means spreading some cheer and sharing some cookies according to our 11 year-old ambassador, Isla! 🍪

She wanted to give back to the Karori, Wellington Plunket clinic where she went as a pēpi for her checks. So she and a friend whipped up a batch of delicious iced bickies and popped along to Karori's last Plunket in the Neighbourhood (PIN) group of the year!

Baking for parents and toddlers is one way to show some seasonal love to Plunket's community services team. But the easiest way is to simply donate.

Help us be there for tamariki like Isla these holidays - every little bit helps little lives thrive. Support our mahi here: https://bit.ly/45cZu9d ❤️
