It’s not all about amazing transformations when it comes to making dentures - (even if that’s our favorite part). Let’s talk RCP and the benefits to restoring Vertical Dimension (VD) to an over worn bite 😁
What is RCP and how is it important when it comes to Dentures?
RCP, (Retruded Cuspal Position), refers to the position of the mandible (lower jaw) when the jaw joint is in its most retruded, unstrained, relaxed position. It is the first tooth to contact when the jaw softly closes from this retruded position however, RCP is the measurement of bone to bone relationship rather than tooth to tooth. You can feel this joint move if you place a finger at the base of your ear and open close your mouth. Bare with me and read on..
Restoring the RCP is crucial for all denture wearers. Here’s why it matters:
1. Enhanced Stability: Maintaining the RCP ensures that your dentures are stable and secure in your mouth, reducing movement while eating or speaking.
2. Natural Bite Alignment: It helps in achieving a proper bite, which can prevent discomfort and improve overall function.
3. Facial Structure Support: Restoring RCP helps preserve the natural contours of your face, preventing sagging and promoting a youthful appearance.
4. Improved Comfort: A well-aligned denture reduces pressure points, making it more comfortable to wear throughout the day.
