Grief Coach You know when you see or hear of someone who’s life has been turned upside down because they have lost their partner or a significant loved one?

Paula Colloty | Grief Coach | PREKURE Certified Mental Health Coach | Helping women to cope with loss and care for themselves through support and lifestyle medicine. Suddenly find themselves alone and all their hopes and dreams for the future have been dashed. Often they’re feeling anxious and uncertain about how they will cope on their own. I know how that feels. I’m Paula, founder of Grief Coach

and I too have felt that. But then I found that getting some support and learning strategies to get through the days and weeks allowed me to find a path forward along with some confidence that I could do this different life. Now, I specialise in helping people who have lost a loved one to get through the days and care for themselves while they come to terms with the changes in their life. I give them practical actions that they can take to cope and to grow a new life that honours their past but gives them hope and confidence for their future. Do you know how much is involved in organising a funeral? There’s so much to think about—cremation or burial, the service, what to wear, who to invite, music, flowers, the type of service, subscriptions to cancel, assets to document… and that’s just scratching the surface.

Do you really want to leave all these tough decisions to your loved ones, who will already be emotional and stressed? 💭

Planning ahead can take a huge weight off their shoulders.

I had a great catch up with Alina Reed of Final Farewell to discuss different sides of the bereavement journey.

We all like to think there’s plenty of time to get things in order. After all, who wants to face the big questions about life’s end when we’re still enjoying every moment? But here’s a little secret: planning ahead is one of the most thoughtful things you can do for yourself and your loved o...

I have attended to two funerals this year. They were vastly different. A reflection of two very different men. One had a big life and lived life to the full. One quiet and gentle. As I was contemplating the impact for the families and friends who are going to grapple with their loss I was reminded that both of these men have, in their own way, left their mark behind on many lives. They were both loved and will both be missed. There is going to be a void to be filled.

For those left behind, it can be easy to be swept away on the tide of grief as we come to terms with the hole that losing someone loved can leave behind. We can forget that there is also likely much that we still have in our lives that is good. in your life, if only to give yourself a momentary break from your grief. If that is something that's hard to do (some of us, myself included don't do this naturally) then please seek some support.

If you're in Hamilton, there is a free* Community Support Drop in session next Friday 15th November in Chartwell. Details below. Gold coin donation appreciated.

It was the first year anniversary of the passing of my Mum this week. It was a hard day. I have planted a memorial fruit tree garden in honour of my Mum thanks to two lovely friends who gifted me trees.

Creating rituals and memorials to celebrate the life of a loved one who has passed away is one way to positively respond to grief. What would you do?

Do you, a client or a friend need support with grief? The next session of my Community Grief Support Drop-in sessions in Hamilton is this Friday 18th October 2024.

Finding hope, whatever that looks like for you, after loss can be hard but it does allow us an opportunity to find a path forward. It can make all the difference.

We aren’t always prepared for the little things that can activate our grief all over again.

It may be the scent of their favorite perfume or cologne as someone passes by. Or, it may be seeing their favorite food as you walk down the aisle at the grocery store. It’s the small things that come out of nowhere that often hit the hardest.

If no one has told you this before - it’s ok. This is part of the grief journey. Just take a moment, pause, and breathe. One step at a time. If today is one of those days for you, I’m sending you a warm hug and asking God yo wrap you in his peace and comfort. 💜🫂💜
