Fungal nail infections are caused by a fungus that thrives in warm, moist environments.
While this fungus can be found in spas, bathrooms, and other public places, there are other factors that can contribute to the risk of getting a fungal nail infection.
These include:
- Minor skin/nail injuries. 💅
- Nail deformities.
- Prolonged exposure to moist conditions/environments. 💧
- Using tools that have been used on other people (most notably nail clippers).
- Wearing closed-in-footwear that is not breathable. 👢
- Having diabetes, poor blood circulation or a weakened immune system. 🩸
If you have any of these risk factors, then it is important to take extra care to prevent the spread of fungal nail infections. This includes keeping your feet clean and dry, wearing breathable footwear, and avoiding using tools that have been used on other people.
