One of the most time-consuming parts of what we do is drying and separating our medicinal plants. Like our Manuka.
It’s not the quickest job… but it’s one of the most important.

Every branch is picked, sorted, dried, and stripped by hand.
No machines. No bulk processors. Just us, doing it the slow way, the right way.

Why?
Because we have a real passion for collecting, preparing, and preserving native plants and herbs, not just for our family’s own use, but for future Healu products as our range continues to grow.
Doing it by hand keeps the plant material at its best and gives us a clean, high-quality base for whatever we create next.

This part of the process takes the most time, but it’s also the heart of Healu. Local plants, harvested with intention, prepared with care, and kept ready for the healing remedies we’ll continue to bring to life.

The conventional way maybe slower but maybe that's the secret. Slowing down. Sometimes the connection itself, provides just as much healing as the plant.

It’s been a little while since we’ve posted but sometimes stepping back allows space for better things to grow.

Meet the Face Behind Healu

Hi, I’m Hayden, the heart and hands behind Healu and this is my greatest inspiration, my son Harlen.

Healu began as my personal journey to create a more authentic, natural life for my family. Along the way I discovered a deeper purpose, helping others reconnect with their true selves and with nature, in a world that often moves too fast and pulls us away from what matters most.

Through seeing healing from a different perspective, the connection between us and mother nature, I created Healu to help restore what has been forgotten over generations. The name itself came from a phrase I held onto throughout my own healing journey “you healing you” because all true healing begins from within.

Drawing on my knowledge of herbalism, I’ve created a healthier, more natural home for us and now I’m bringing that same intention to Healu. My vision is to one day create a Healu Healing Sanctuary, a space where people can step away from the noise, slow down and return to the natural rhythm we were always meant to live in.

This is my journey. This is Healu.

It is not about the amount of balms we produce, it is about making each one powerful enough to promote true healing. Just the way nature intended.

When Healu first began, these balms weren’t made for the shelves — they were made for home. I wanted a more natural way to support healing for myself and my family, without the synthetic extras.

After seeing how well they worked, we shared them with friends and whānau… and the response was overwhelming. That’s how the Healu Kawakawa & Calendula Healing Balm and Healu Kawakawa & Turmeric Anti-Inflammatory Balm were born.

The Healing Balm – Our original, & plain formulas have been used for a wide range of skin healing — from rashes and eczema to minor cuts, bites, and even supporting recovery from small infections.
