At Karaka Lifestyle Estate, the talented Maintenance Team is building a series of “sit-a-whiles” — charming little garden spots designed for exactly what the name suggests: sitting a while. Once finished and framed by growing greenery, these spots will be perfect for residents and their families to relax, chat, or simply watch the world go by.

Every three months at Roseland Park, residents come together for a day of friendly competition. Teams participate in a mix of indoor and outdoor games, accompanied by plenty of laughter, refreshments at halftime, and, of course, a prize for the winners.

At Roseland Park in Hamilton, the craft group recently put their talents on display, showcasing everything from scarves and blankets to sculptures, paintings and drawings. It’s a creative and generous group. In addition to their personal projects, they regularly knit woollen squares which are sewn into blankets, as well as caps, beanies and fingerless gloves. These are donated through a local church charity and sent to those in need, both locally and overseas, including places like Ukraine.

Earlier this month, Downey Construction poured the concrete slabs for two new Berkeley homes as part of Stage 3 at Karaka Pines Rototuna in Hamilton. It’s exciting to see the next phase underway as we prepare to welcome the next group of residents into the village.

At Roseland Park, chilly winter evenings are the perfect excuse to cosy up for a movie night. Residents enjoyed the latest films together with a sweet treat — an ice cream piled high with their favourite toppings!

‘The Red Team’ visited Karaka Lifestyle Estate on Tuesday morning with an informal yet informative presentation. Residents appreciated the information shared and had plenty of questions, which the team answered thoroughly. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a morning tea and the chance to mix and mingle. The highlight of the visit was the big red fire truck, which they drove right into the Clubhouse Courtyard!

Wayne, a resident of Regency Park, was a computing tutor at the local polytechnic for 23 years before running his own computing business. Recently, he has reached out to fellow residents at Regency Park with important information about Microsoft ending support for Windows 10 this October. While computers will continue to function, they could become vulnerable to security risks, such as viruses.

Wayne has invested many hours securing the best local deal for residents needing to update their computers. He has also met one-on-one with residents to understand their needs and assist with setting up their new systems, all in exchange for koha to the village social club.

It is wonderful to have people like Wayne, who so generously give their time to support others and enrich our communities.

On a cold morning like today, it’s hard to imagine jumping in the water for a swim – but that’s exactly what Karaka Lifestyle Estate residents did on the 25th of June to raise funds for South Auckland Riding for the Disabled.

At Woodcroft Estate, the crafts group has been busy knitting cosy garments for babies in the NICU. With winter well and truly here, their handmade pieces will bring comfort and warmth when it’s needed most. Off to the hospital!

Residents played a special role in this year’s ANZAC Day service at Karaka Pines Rototuna. A group of resident men created the striking red poppies displayed in the garden, while Jeanette Sherwood handcrafted and distributed hand-knitted poppies on the day.

Following the service, residents gathered for a morning tea. Thank you to Graham for capturing the day.

Karaka Pines Rototuna residents also poured their time and energy into creating handmade decorations for ANZAC Day, with poppies displayed throughout the village. A special thank you to Briar White for capturing the stunning images of the poppies illuminated at night.

Karaka Pines Rototuna residents celebrated their Christmas BBQ in their newly installed marquee, which provides extra space for gatherings while work on their permanent clubhouse continues. The food was fantastic, and it was wonderful to see everyone in their festive outfits. Merry Christmas to all!

Karaka Pines Rototuna has been looking beautiful lately thanks to a recent bloom of some unique plants. Among these, the rain lily stands out, popping up in gardens across Australia and New Zealand. These delightful plants, also known as white fairy lilies, have caught attention for their habit of bursting into bloom en masse following rainfall. The star-shaped white or pink and white flowers bring an enchanting touch to the landscape. Notably, rain lilies are easy to care for, adding to their appeal for planting in various garden settings. An interesting note about these plants is that their flowers close at night and reopen with the morning light!
