Limitless Neuro Rehab was created to get Parkinson’s specific exercise out into the community! The exercise programme consists of a series of structured classes with evidence-based exercises to improve your capabilities. The exercises can be adapted for any skill or confidence level. There is also the option to have one-on-one sessions and assessments with the instructor. Dates and times: Monday a
nd Wednesday 3-4pm (Counterpunch), Tuesday and Thursday 9-10am (PD Warrior). Price: $20 for a casual class, $40/week for the Limitless Membership (includes all classes and extras). Location: Inside Tu Tonu Rehab at 20 Karewa Place, Pukete. Grace Mayer is a Physiotherapist who works with both musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. She became personally interested in Parkinson’s as her father was diagnosed. He noticed the lack of Physiotherapy-led rehabilitation for Parkinson’s in the Waikato region and encouraged Grace to get involved; the rest is history! Grace has completed both her Level 1 and Level 2 PD Warrior certifications, as well as her Counterpunch Parkinson's Coach Accreditation. What happens in a class? The classes will begin with a five-minute warm up to get your muscles and bodies prepared for exercise! We will then go through a variety of Parkinson’s specific exercises which involve strength, coordination, balance and power! After this we will go through a warm down to unwind and cool the body back down. Participants are encouraged to work at 80% of their maximum effort, though always within the level of ability to ensure the safety of everyone present. Working at 80% means that you feel strong, powerful and confident! There will always be chairs available to rest, and all movements and exercises can be altered to suit you. What do I need to bring? You will be required to wear clothing that you feel comfortable exercising in, along with a full water bottle, towel, as well as any medication or walking aids you may need. The hall is wheelchair accessible. All participants are encouraged to have one or two one-on-one sessions with Grace to have an assessment taken with Parkinson’s specific outcome measures to look at balance, walking ability and fine-motor ability. Initial sessions are 90 minutes long and are held at the same location as the classes.
