I have been seeing this kind of message a lot lately. And it is so true. How many times have you woken up feeling really bleh! With the thought "I feel awful today! Or I feel so miserable! Or I am really not looking forward to today!" Or, my favorite: "This is going to be a long day!" Only to have exactly what you thought!
I have had this proven to me, once again, this very week! The words leave my mouth only to become my reality!
It makes me think of all the times that I will belittle myself or fill myself with self doubt! Reprimanding myself for those silly little mistakes, that I do make, I mean I am human so I am fallible! But I am hard on myself! We are hard on ourselves!
Adding stress and anxiety to our lives. Only making us sicker and weaker!
Which brings to mind a quote of Eunice Ingham, the "mother of modern reflexology" : "Why poison your body with poisonous thoughts?"
That is what we do! We poison ourselves by what we think!!! BUT! We can do better. We can change the way we think about things, about ourselves. Instead of immediately going to the negative, as I believe most of us tend to do, we can stop, pause and think of something more joyful. Its not easy, I know. Oh, believe me, I know! 🙈
One of my favourite examples is being stuck in traffic (especially when it may make me late for work), I can sit and stress and complain all I want, all that does is make me feel awful, tie my stomach in knots, make me feel anxious and sweaty! You know what I'm talking about. So, I recently started a practice where I list the things I love. (I learned this from a lovely lady, Sonia. I shall share more about her in another post.) Anyway, this technique is nothing major and nothing "airy fairy", and it works!
We CAN change our thoughts, if we want to. It takes work, and consistency, but it can be done. I cannot remember who mentioned it, but they asked: "If you heard your child speak to themself in the same way that you speak to yourself, how would you feel?" Food for thought.
How about giving it a go? One thought at a time. There is nothing to lose, but what no longer serves us. What else is possible?
Wishing each of you a glorious day, wherever you may be.
