Our products are traditionally fermented with salt using the natural yeasts and bacteria. Fermenting foods is a practice as old as humans themselves. Before modern food production every household would practice fermentation as a way of preserving the harvest and keeping food over non-productive winter months. All over the world traditional cultures innately knew how to improve food with the use of

invisible microbes. Science is only just catching up with the innate wisdom of our ancestors. Marea first shared her passion for growing nutrient dense food, making great ferments and nourishing our families to health and wellness, through teaching others. Now you can also buy our GoodBugs online, at local markets or at selected stockists. Goodbugs a name which tells a huge story. Our microbiome contains more bacteria than all of our human cells. A harmonious balance between the different types of bacteria in our microbiome will determine the state of our health. Until recently, the roles of these 'billions of little helpers' that make up our microbiome was a vital, but underrated contributor to human health. Each jar of Goodbugs Zuurkool real sauerkraut is raw (unpasteurised) and alive with these life giving probiotics.

A rare 24 hours away from the kids last week meant we packed a lot in!

Fresh off receiving our 3 Gold Medals from the Outstanding Food Producer Awards , we headed to Auckland to attend the Outstanding Food Producer Awards Champions Party!

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing our Kiss Me Kimchi featured on the grazing table alongside some of New Zealand's finest award-winning foods. We also had the chance to sample some incredible kai and celebrate the amazing producers helping shape NZ's food scene.

Between meetings and festivities, we squeezed in a beach walk, stayed in a beautifully restored former convent, and stopped by Little Snail Café for kimchi toasties made by fellow fermenters Eunice Workshop. It's always inspiring connecting with others who are passionate about real food, traditional fermentation, and nourishing communities through what they create.

A huge congratulations to our friends at Mon's Flavors and Dreamview Farm for taking out top honours in their categories. What an awesome night celebrating the people behind some truly exceptional New Zealand food.

We're feeling grateful, inspired, and more excited than ever about what's ahead for GoodBugs.

This beauty features a perfectly poached egg sitting on a dollop of grated zucchini, drenched in EVOO and chilli flakes, hanging out in a rich roasted chicken broth with organic silverbeet and a generous helping of funky, tangy GoodBugs Beeter Be Good sauerkraut!

🍗 Foodie Friday: Kimchi Fried Chicken

Who doesn’t love fried chicken? No need for 11 herbs and spices when you’ve got a jar of GoodBugs kimchi on hand 😍

A crunchy, flavour-packed twist on a takeaway classic — perfect for your weekend cook-up.

Ingredients:
½ cup kimchi juice (from GoodBugs Kimchi)
1 cup natural yoghurt or buttermilk
1 egg
2 tsp garlic powder
750g–1kg boneless chicken thighs
4 tbsp sesame seeds
1 cup flour
½ cup cornflour
1 tsp onion salt
½ tsp white pepper
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp cayenne pepper
½ tsp celery salt
Oil for deep frying

Method:
Mix kimchi juice, yoghurt, egg and garlic powder, then add chicken. Marinate at least 4 hours or overnight.

Heat oil to 170°C. Combine dry ingredients, coat chicken, then fry in batches until golden (around 5 mins). Drain on paper towels.

Serve hot with kimchi mayo 😋

Kimchi Mayo:
Mix 1 cup drained, chopped GoodBugs kimchi with 1 cup mayo.
