Let's chat about why a Liver and Gallbladder flush can be such a game-changer for your health!

Your liver and gallbladder are hard-working organs, they diligently process toxins, manage chemical compounds, and address the aftermath of processed foods. In addition, they actively participate in the synthesis of cholesterol, which has far-reaching implications for our metabolic processes.

If you have been experiencing any of the following symptoms, they may be linked to poor liver or gallbladder function:
• Pain between shoulder blades
• Nausea after eating fatty food
• Pain or discomfort in the right abdominal area
• Gallstones (or a family history of gallstones or gallbladder removal)
• Liver blood test results outside a healthy range
• Light or clay-coloured stools
• Headaches over your eyes
• Bitter taste in your mouth especially after meals

If you recognise any of the above symptoms, then maybe it’s time to seek advice. Considering a liver and gallbladder flush under the guidance of a naturopath brings several key advantages.

Naturopaths are trained professionals who specialise in holistic health. By conducting a thorough assessment of your health history, current condition, and potential imbalances, we are able to personalise the approach to ensure that the liver and gallbladder flush is tailored to your specific needs.

The flush can vary in intensity and approach and is designed as a safe and effective protocol that aligns with your individual health status, taking into account any underlying conditions or medications you might be taking.

Okay, I’m back on my zinc rant (again!) — but with good reason. Zinc is one of those minerals that so many people are low in, and the effects can show up everywhere in your health. Zinc is needed for hundreds of processes in the body and is one of the most common deficiencies I see in clinic.

For your gut, zinc is especially vital:
• It keeps the mucosal lining of your gut wall strong
• It helps you make digestive enzymes so you can break down food properly
• It supports stomach acid production to digest protein

When your stomach isn’t breaking down food well, it creates problems further down the digestive tract, often leading to food reactions and gut issues.

While zinc-rich foods like lamb, beef, pumpkin seeds, spinach, cashews, cocoa and chickpeas are fantastic, most people still benefit from a supplement.

Low zinc can show up as hair loss, bloating, acne, eczema, brittle nails, poor immunity, delayed healing, hormone imbalances, poor memory, joint pain and even hay fever. No matter your age, it’s worth checking in on your zinc levels!

I want to take a moment to have you think about your journey ahead...

Do you see yourself embracing your golden years with vitality, staying active, and relishing your retirement?

Or do you worry about hospital visits, aching bodies, and limitations holding you back? 🏥 Your choices today are so important as they have an impact on your future health.

Because we need to remember, health isn't built overnight – it's a journey that unfolds over time. Conditions like cancer, arthritis, and heart disease develop gradually, often long before they make their presence felt. That's why proactive steps now are like planting seeds for a thriving future.

What steps can you take to prioritise your health now?
1. Prioritise Regular Check-ups: Don't wait for signs to appear. Regular health check-ups help catch potential issues in their early stages.
2. Nourish Your Plate: Opt for whole foods rich in nutrients. Think vibrant veggies, wholesome grains, lean proteins, and good fats. Your plate is your palette for longevity!
3. Move It, Love It: Engage in activities you enjoy. Whether it's yoga, dancing, walking, or hitting the gym – movement keeps your body agile and spirit youthful.
4. Stress Less, Breathe More: Chronic stress takes a toll. Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or spending time in nature.
5. Find your Balance: Balance is key in all aspects of life. From work to play, from sleep to socialising – find your equilibrium.
6. Supplement a healthy diet with nutrients: Explore natural remedies like herbal teas, adaptogens, and supplements that can support your overall well-being.

Unfortunately, navigating perimenopause and menopause wasn't covered during my naturopathic training...

So, when I began experiencing frequent headaches in my mid-forties, I attributed it to food sensitivities. Looking back, those headaches were likely due to low progesterone. Around age 48, my sleep quality declined significantly, and I was awake for hours every night – this started to affect me mentally, worrying about not getting enough sleep and finding it hard to concentrate the next day and putting up with brain fog.

Then the hot flushes started. These just took over my body whenever they liked, and I felt embarrassed and I tried to ignore them. But they were happening every hour or two, day and night and I was started to wonder if this was my new life and it sucked, big time. I really was surprised that I was having these symptoms since I live a pretty healthy lifestyle and I was surprised that they started at my mid-forties! I also felt down like no one understood me and I tried not to make a big deal of it (living in a houseful of males I felt a little alone).

I started to wonder if my mother had silently endured a similar experience. as I never knew this as a teenager if she did.

Meanwhile I was taking every supplement under the sun to try and stop or reduce these symptoms, but nothing seemed to make a difference. And that’s when I then decided my quality of life was being affected too much and after much research into the dreaded HRT (which in previous years has had such a bad rap) I made an appointment with a holistic doctor.

The appointment was so positive. We discussed HRT options, associated risks, and benefits, leading to the initiation of estrogen cream and progesterone. The transformation was remarkable: improved sleep, elimination of hot flushes, enhanced mood, and heightened concentration.

I personally chose to get bioidentical hormones, the estrogen, progesterone and testosterone that are derived from a herb called wild yam so I pay for these each month however many women get the estrogen patches and progesterone capsules that are funded through their doctor.

Perimenopause and menopause are a very unique experience for each woman, if you need support please reach out to us at The Naturopathic Clinic for an appointment 022 017 6033 or book online at https://www.thenaturopathicclinic.co.nz

Endometriosis is NOT a HORMONAL CONDITION, it is an INFLAMMATORY DISEASE that is affected by hormones!!

📖 The main symptom of endometriosis is pain.
📖 Endometriosis is a disease of immune dysfunction.
📖 Specific immune cells can stimulate abnormal nerve growth and increase inflammation and cause pain.
📖 New research shows there are specific bacteria in the gut microbiome that may be one of the factors involved in the growth of endometriosis.

The following are important factors that need to be considered when you have Endometriosis:
👉 Address gut health
👉 Support a healthy immune function
👉 Identify and remove food intolerances
👉 Support with supplements - Berberine, zinc, selenium, vitamin A, curcumin

If you need support please contact us at The Naturopathic Clinic for an appointment 022 017 6033 or book online at https://www.thenaturopathicclinic.co.nz

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a group of symptoms that affects the stomach and intestines. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, cramping, gas or bloating, diarrhoea, constipation or even both. Nausea, reflux, a feeling of fullness or a change in texture/colour of your stool are also symptoms of IBS. You may suffer from one or more of these symptoms.

As a Naturopath, I find the most common causes are:
👉 Food Intolerances
👉 Mineral deficiencies that affect the digestive system
👉 Overgrowths of the wrong type of bacteria in the gut, under growths of the good bacteria

If you would like to get your gut sorted or if you have other health issues you are concerned about please contact us at The Naturopathic Clinic for an appointment 022 017 6033 or book online at https://www.thenaturopathicclinic.co.nz

Today, let's address the lurking menace that affects so many New Zealanders homes & health – Household mould! 🌧️

Mould not only damages the aesthetics of our abode but can also have negative impacts on our health.

Mould toxicity can cause many health issues including chronic fatigue, gut issues, fibromyalgia, food allergies, skin rashes, respiratory issues, cold symptoms and many more! The mycotoxins that come from the mould can damage our brain, liver, gut and kidney function.

I speak with clients all the time about this issue and what to be aware of, so I would like to share with my community what you should all know and some natural solutions to combat it:

🌿 Recognize the Signs: Keep an eye out for discoloured patches on walls, a musty odour, or water stains – these may be signs of mould growth. Mould spores can also be in hidden places such as behind your fridge or inside water units and aircon units, so it’s worth checking these out.

🌬️ Ventilation is Key: This is the time of year where moisture really starts to creep in. Ensure good airflow in your home. Open windows and let fresh air circulate to reduce moisture levels.

🍋 Never use bleach on mould. For non-porous surfaces, use warm water, dish liquid, a splash of white vinegar and a damp microfibre cloth - for surfaces such as glass, tiles and aluminium. The optimal remedy for mould affected porous surfaces is replacement.

🌊 Fix Leaks Promptly: Address any leaks in plumbing or roofing promptly to prevent water damage and mould growth.

🍃 Keep Indoor Plants Mindfully: While plants can enhance your space, be mindful of overwatering, as excess moisture can encourage mould growth.

🧼 Regular Cleaning Ritual: Regularly clean and dry areas like bathroom tiles, shower curtains, and windowsills to prevent mould formation.

🌞 Sunlight Therapy: Sunlight is nature's disinfectant! Open curtains during the day to allow sunlight to reach damp areas.

Remember, a healthy home promotes a healthy you! I hope some of these tips help you with the battle against any household mould issues you may have and support your journey to wellness.

I’m excited to share with you today the incredible benefits of castor oil packs – nature's little secret to wellness and vitality!

Castor oil packs have been used for centuries as a natural remedy for a wide range of health issues, and their positive effects are truly remarkable.

When applied to the skin over specific areas, such as the liver, abdomen or joints, castor oil packs work their magic in several ways:

🌿 Detoxification: Castor oil packs gently stimulate the lymphatic system, supporting your body's detoxification process and helping to flush out toxins.

🌿 Inflammation Relief: These packs possess anti-inflammatory properties, providing soothing relief to achy muscles and joints, making them a great ally for those with arthritis or sore muscles.

🌿 Improved Digestion: Castor oil packs can be a game-changer for digestive issues, as they may help reduce bloating, cramps, and support a healthy gut.

🌿 Enhanced Circulation: By promoting blood flow to the targeted area, castor oil packs can aid in reducing pain and promoting healing.

We sell Castor Oil Packs with all the instructions, Organic Castor Oil and Organic Cloth, in the clinic - it is important to use organic cloth so you don't absorb the dies from non organic cloth.

If you would like a pack (there is enough oil, cloth and herbs for 6 packs) then please contact the clinic 022 017 6033 or email info@thenaturopathicclinic.co.nz

The Damage Toxins can do to your Health❗️❗️

Our body is exposed to and stores thousands of chemicals and heavy metals and many of these accumulate as we age. This is why it is so important to detoxify our bodies regularly and I’m not talking about a juice detox.

One of the most problematic heavy metals we are exposed to and most of us have high levels of is ALUMINIUM. Aluminium gets into our body through food, drinking water, cosmetics, packaging, deodorants, the air, medications - like antacids and vaccines.

As we get older our levels build up and start to affect our health more. Research shows that aluminium can build up in the brain tissue and can contribute to diseases such as alzheimer’s, autism and multiple sclerosis. Aluminium can also prevent DNA repair and disrupt enzyme activity resulting in disruption to many processes in the body.

Detoxification of aluminium and other heavy metals that are common to build up in the body like mercury can be detoxed using specific protocols using herbs and special binders to mobilise and bind these toxins. Alongside the supplement detoxification protocol we use a specific type of Ionic Foot Bath. We use an advanced hydrogen foot bath with a platinum array to assist the body in removing many toxins.

If you would like to support your body to detoxify – getting rid of some of the load of heavy metals and chemicals you have accumulated please contact The Naturopathic Clinic for an appointment 022 017 6033 or book online at https://www.thenaturopathicclinic.co.nz

☀️☀️Vitamin D for IMMUNE SUPPORT☀️☀️

As we move through the winter months our vitamin D levels decline as we have less sun and less skin exposed to the sun.

Vitamin D deficiency is very common over the winter months and vitamin D is extremely important for your immune system. We want to keep our immune system strong enough to fight whatever bugs come along.

Vitamin D is also important to help calcium absorption for bone health, mood, memory, as well as for reducing hypertension.

Here in Hamilton, Pathlab charge $60 to get your vitamin D levels checked via a blood test.

The optimal value for vitamin D levels should be above 100. If your levels are below 100 then you would likely benefit from supplementing with vitamin D.

Beware that the approved level of vitamin D in New Zealand per capsule/drop is very low. I usually advise clients to take between 3,000-6,000IU daily over the winter months, although depending on the deficiency I might prescribe a higher dose.

Keep that immune system strong so you can fight off the winter bugs!!!
