As at 20:19 4/5/22 this midwife hung up her LMC career. I officially went off call.

The first photo is the first 'official' client I delivered. I had the honor of knowing his mum all her life and was a great way to start my practice.

The second photo is my last 'official' client I delivered. I have also had honor of knowing this mumma all her life.So was thw best way to close this chapter

The last 12.5 years has been a blast and I'm so greatful for all the families I have had the pleasure of being part of their journey, and in many occasions more than once.

As I hang up my on call journey I will never forget the connections that have been made.
I am off on my next journey in this career and taking some time to breathe and smell the roses.

Proud to be a midwife everyday and will continue to give every family I come across the best experience they can have.

So it little delayed but here we go.

Wanna give shot out to the team I've worked alongside for last few years.

Maternal instinct midwives was first place I ever experinced midwifery practice and last place (for now) I've worked with.

Working along side Wendy Fache was my first experience and ill will never forget. Your friendship is very previous and one I keep for ever.

Kirstin Rouse, what can I say. I've been through 2 Maternal leaves, watch u become a mumma, and yea just had a blast. Your boys will have have special place in my heart

As I'm nearly ready to sign off the LMC job I'd like thank everyone for yr luv and support over the years..
My clients, WOW you have made this not a job but a family that I love being a part of. Without u this job wouldn't have been the same.

12.5 years and I'm nearly ready to sign out.
This has been hardest decision of my life but the right decision for me.

Lots of love to you all and I'll ensure I keep u up to date with new journey.

Good Afternoon everyone....
Just wanted to update u all on the future.
It's been one of hardest decisions I've made in a long time but my feeling is it the right one.
In April 2022 I'm on a new journey in midwifery and have decided to move to Australia. As many of u know it has been a tough 7 months and I feel I need change and also go support my family in Australia.
Your support over the last 11 years has been amazing and I have no words to describe what it means to me.
Watch this space as I take on Australian Midwifery and my journey

Sorry has been a while since I posted. It has been a hard 6 months. But wanted to share an amazing story with you all, as makes me smile how awesome women are and the privilege I have to be apart of your journeys

Sometimes babies decide to arrive before the destination.
This amazing mum delivered her own baby in the car, then continued to drive to birth centre where I greeted her with a smile and a hug.
She literally rang me at 1am to say having contractions, baby delivered on route shortly after 2am
Some birth plans do take a turn, but u need to embrace the amazing strength of women and what our bodies can do.

River Ridge East Birth Centre is celebrating 2020 - International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife by sharing stories and messages from or about our wonderful LMCs in the Waikato - next up, Mel Jeram 🌈

Hi everyone, I'm Mel Jeram and I have been an independent midwife in the Waikato for 10 years. I currently work alongside Kirstin Rouse (who is on maternity leave) and work with Maternal Instinct Midwives based at the Hub at River Ridge East Birth Centre.
Midwifery was my choice of profession and is my PASSION, and even in this difficult time I still love it just as much as I did when I chose to study all those years ago.
Recently, I ventured on a holiday to Canada to visit my son (hence this picture). My holiday was amazing but upon my return everything changed. I was put in quarantine and that put extra stress on me and my wonderful clients. Luckily, I had amazing support from colleagues and clients.
I've always found it hard to miss a birth (for whatever reason, it happens occasionally) and this was about to become a reality for me. I was still answering phones, sending emails, answering texts but just couldn’t physically be there, so even while in quarantine I was still very much being a midwife. The photos started coming in from new parents, the phone starting ringing and in my heart I knew they were in good hands. The support I received from my colleagues was very humbling. Now I'm back, out of isolation and doing what I love. I couldn’t feel more proud to be a midwife.
COVID-19 is out there, and as a medical profession we are doing everything possible to keep our clients and families safe. The staff at Waikato Hospital and River Ridge East Birth Centre have been absolutely amazing and I want to thank them for holding down the fort and putting in the extra work to help us all keep safe.
Whatever I do, wherever I go I'm super proud to say "I'm a midwife". The long hours, the sleepless nights, and the interruptions to ‘normal’ family life are all part of it and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m so grateful my family have supported me throughout the last 10 years, without question.
And to finish on a positive note – yesterday, I was super blessed to be able to deliver one of my best friend’s baby, at her home, surrounded by her husband and three children. She was amazing and I couldn’t be more proud of her ###x
