Are you a woman over 35 and tired of being asked if you’re a woman over 35?
Why are we letting the algorithm determine how we feel and living in confirmation bias?
Why does my Instagram feed constantly try and scare me in to believing I’m going to become a moody unreasonable nutter any day now and that my days of having energy and feeling good are numbered?
Imagine if we did the same to preteens.. are you 12 and feeling like your parents are idiots? Are you nearly 13 and want to stay in your bedroom and sit in your phone all day?
I’m not the exception because I feel great at 43 and I still do HIIT training and I haven’t retired from challenging myself because society says I’m supposed to be lacking energy and choosing walking over weights now.
In the same way that we have broken free of the restraints that women can’t do weight training let’s get rid of this expectation that the end of our life starts at 35.. perimenopause isn’t waiting around the corner to stab you in the lifestyle.
Break the algorithm, raise the bar.

Happy international woman’s day! Hope you are surrounded by the beautiful women who make your life joy filled. That is what I feel with the awesome women I get to do life with, they bring joy and light to my life and I am honoured to share interested, passions and laughs with so many.
This is literally me scrolling my iPad for saved photos with groups of women and I’m so surprised this was the only photo I had with my sisters! A photo of a photo haha… and so many women who are so important to me that I dont have photos of but I treasure every one of them so dearly. So very blessed to be a woman and to know so many great ones.

Theres a lot of talk at the moment about the “resolutioners” or the gym newbs who will be gone come February… I thought about this as I sat on my bike yesterday and that amazing song by Six60 came on.. Don’t forget your roots my friend… Now I’m not stealing the meaning of that song as it has such cool strength behind it on it’s own but I think we all can too often forget that we have all been there. We’ve all at some point had to walk through those gym doors for the first time and whether alone or with a friend had to start the journey of doing something to improve ourselves.
I trained right through the holiday break and the gym was dead.. I didnt mind, I had all the space for all my weird stuff lol but this last week I have loved seeing the people coming in with that new excitement and little trepidation and nervousness. I said to my husband “do you remember those days? Do you remember how good it felt getting those first PBS?!”
Because that’s such a choice time! Everything is new and different and a little scary and you see results so quickly and youn meet new people and realise you’re capable of things you didnt know…
And then all too soon we get a bit stuck in our ways and keep our head down and our headphones on and think we know everything.
Ask yourself how things would have been for you on those times you tried the gym and failed if someone had said Hi and asked how things were going.
And if you’re starting out at the gym this month… good on you. Be brave, be strong, be proud of yourself.

Todays life hack… at the moment I’m this heat bananas are not lasting and are at the risk of being wasted by becoming too ripe. Problem solved, get a nice big freezer safe container, break the banana into chunks and layer with baking paper to make it easy to break apart, once frozen store in the freezer for as long as you need. All ready for those summer morning smoothies.

In a time when we want to give everything a label and feel like we’re on some bandwagon dont forget that at the essence of it all the best result comes from eating the food that God gave us out of the ground and avoiding the marketing and the hype.
I am astounded by how many people I have worked with who are vegan and hate vegetables, or who are keto and actually dont know what that means or who are paleo and so so tired…
If you are weighing your broccoli then stop.. that is not the problem, I’m yet to meet anyone who has health issues of any sort attributed to eating too much quality good food - I’m talking stuff your grandma would recognise here!

Alright.. lets talk meal prep.
This seems to be something that gets everyone really flustered and overwhelmed but I’m gonna break it down nice and simple and hopefully give you some more knowledge behind what you’re investing time in to.
I’m gonna talk about lunch primarily because this seems to be where people get a bit unsure.. we all know how to eat dinner and we know that breakfast is supposed to be good for us (even if this is another uphill battle with some people) but lunch leaves us a bit flummoxed. Maybe it’s the interruption to your day or the having to plan ahead for taking stuff to work that just seems to big a job.
First nice and east solution… take leftovers. There is no unspoken rule that says dinner must only be eaten at dinner time.. make extra and take for lunch the next day. You dont typically have the same thing for dinner each night so this ensures a bit of variety too and if you’re taking the time to cook dinner and it’s gonna be two meals maybe thats added incentive to not get takeaways?
If you are not a leftovers fan or, like me, hubby gets leftovers and you are happy to make something seperate for lunch each day then it can be just as simple…
Each meal should consist of a good balance of carbs, proteins and fats. I know that most people know that but far too few actually understand what that means. As far as prep goes, I pre cook a variety of my starchy carbs so that I can change it up each day - I choose rice, kumara, potato (shock horror!) or quinoa. That takes out most of the cooking time as these are the most time consuming for prep.
Then with those in seperate containers in the fridge I only need to cook my protein (for me this is chicken or bacon, or roast chickpeas or sometimes a pre prepared patty I’ve made) .. you could of course easily have a container with your protein pre cooked.. this is just personal preference.
