Asthma Waikato – who we are, what we do

Our Vision: Living free from asthma

Our Mission: To free people from asthma through expert education and advocacy to live a life full of possibilities

We explain:

· What asthma actually is
· What medicines there are and what they do
· What a spacer is
· What different devices there are
· What triggers are
· What other things might be impacting asthma

We explain the WHY of all these things because if people know the WHY they’re more likely to comply. We ensure people are on:
· The right medicine
· The right dose
· The right device

Our education ensures that they and their whānau know how to:
· Take it in the right way
· At the right time

We give people
· Our time
· Access to our expertise
· Robust follow up
· An open door policy for reaching out
· Holistic care
· A warm, welcoming environment for the whole whānau

In the rush of packing everything for the holidays, remember to pack your childs asthma inhalers. Do last checks where they are usually kept, so they are not left behind.
Have an amazing holiday🎄

17/12/2025

Our last day for the year is the 17th December. We will be back and refreshed on Monday the 12th January 2026. Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas break from the team at Asthma Waikato

It is important to keep taking your preventer inhaler every day even when you are well. Your airways are over sensitive to what you breathe in, the preventer stops the inside of your airways becoming swollen, irritated and full of mucus. Symptoms come back when you miss the preventer doses. So keep up the good work with your preventer inhaler and be symptom free of asthma

02/12/2025

Do you have enough inhalers for your child over the Christmas period? December is the silly, busy season. Schedule a GP visit now if you need to - don't wait till later in the month. Think about what they need for the holidays .

25/11/2025

If you have taken your child to hospital due to them struggling with their breathing its important aftwards to have an appointment with their GP for a check up. You can also have a free appointment with Asthma Waikato for education and support about asthma.

Do you understand why preventer inhalers are so important for asthma management? Do you know why you take them or what they do?

31/10/2025

Running around or playing sports is never fun for our kids if they are struggling with their breathing and cannot keep up with their friends. Come and have a chat with us or see your GP. We are all here to help.
