Sauna use places a controlled stress on the heart and blood vessels. During a sauna session, heart rate often rises to 100–150 beats per minute, which is similar to moderate cardiovascular exercise.

Large long-term research from Finland led by Dr. Jari Laukkanen followed over 2,300 men for more than 20 years. The study found that people using a sauna 2–3 times per week had about a 27% lower risk of fatal cardiovascular disease compared with those using it once per week.

For traditional sauna + ice, aim for 10 to 15 minutes in the sauna, followed by 1 to 2 minutes in the cold plunge. Repeat 2 to 4 times.
