🌟 Big news for our Health Centre and Hanmer Springs! 🌟

We are absolutely thrilled to share that our very own Jessica Gibson has officially qualified as a Nurse Practitioner after successfully completing an internship and passing her panel.

So what does "passing the panel" actually mean? It is the final hurdle in a rigorous process where Jessica presented her advanced clinical portfolio to a panel of senior health professionals, demonstrating she can independently assess, diagnose, prescribe and manage complex care. It is a huge achievement and reflects years of commitment and clinical expertise.

Jessica joined us back in 2020 as a registered nurse working both in and out-of-hours. She has 18 years of nursing experience and holds a Master of Nursing. In 2024 she became a Registered Nurse Prescriber and has now reached this incredible milestone of qualifying as a Nurse Practitioner.

Nurse Practitioners are advanced practice clinicians who assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of health conditions - often serving as the lead provider for patients and their families. They deliver advanced, holistic care, looking beyond symptoms to support the whole person and their wider context.

This is what Jessica had to say:

β€œI am delighted to have completed my studies and look forward to continuing to care for our community. I am especially grateful for the clinical team I work with, my clinical mentors, and the kindness our patients have met me with during my internship.”

This means more expert, holistic care right here in Hanmer Springs and delivered by someone who lives and works alongside us in our community.

We couldn’t be prouder of Jessica and everything she has achieved since joining our team in 2020.

Please join us in congratulating her on this outstanding achievement! πŸ‘

πŸ’ŠImportant update about prescriptions πŸ’Š

From today, 1 February 2026, changes to prescribing rules mean our GPs and Nurse Practitioners MAY be able to prescribe some medications for up to 12 months β€” following an in-person consultation and where it is safe and clinically appropriate.

This does not mean all prescriptions will automatically be for 12 months. Prescription length is always a clinical decision based on your health and your medication.

For more information, please visit:

If you are unsure what this means for you, please talk with your GP or NP next time you make an appointment. We are happy to help 😊

Please join us in giving a very warm welcome to Hayley Good, who joined our nursing team this week. 🌿

We are absolutely delighted to have Hayley joining our Hanmer Springs Health Centre team and providing care to our community.

She brings a wealth of practical experience, as well as a Master of Health Science (Endorsed in Nursing) degree from the University of Canterbury and a degree in Paramedicine from AUT.

Some of you may already know Hayley, as she also volunteers as an EMT ambulance officer with Hanmer Springs Hato Hone St John β€” a wonderful example of her commitment to caring for our community.

We are excited to have you on the team Hayley and are really looking forward to the experience, compassion and dedication you will bring to our patients and community. Welcome! It is great to have you with us! πŸ’š

This is what Hayley had to say: "I am looking forward to working with such an experienced and supportive team, while continuing to provide care for our community"

10/01/2026

PLEASE TAKE CARE AND STAY AT HOME until the wind has settled.

Our team has just returned from a 111 call and conditions outside are very dangerous. Your safety matters to us.
