Recently my family moved to the beautiful Hawkes Bay in New Zealand. A week ago we were told that Cyclone Gabrielle would be heading towards NZ but little did we know just how powerful & catastrophic it would be to our new area.

After a wild, wet & windy Monday night we woke up on Tuesday morning in Napier to no power or communications. Not knowing the extent of the situation we expected power & comms to be restored quickly but by the following day we were still without both. A drive around Napier showed us that there was one supermarket open as they had a generator & there was a long queue outside. People looked bewildered & confused - as you do when an entire city is without power or comms & no one knows what is happening.

We sat in our car to listen to the radio for news updates & discovered that Napier was completely cut off in all directions due to bridges being taken out.

News started to filter in that people were getting helicoptered to safety from rooftops, houses were being washed away in nearby areas & entire communities were wiped out. We realised that we were extremely lucky to be living in an area that was largely unaffected.

Some areas in Hawkes Bay are still without power & communications & transport access is completely cut off, almost a week later. Cyclone Gabrielle inflicted a path of destruction but it has been amazing to see the community come together & help random strangers - many who have lost everything they own.

The whole situation is just dire. People are traumatised & the clean up will take months & years. Kiwis are incredibly resilient though & local communities are pulling together to help those in need.

My family are feeling incredibly blessed right now & glad to be here so we can help our new community.

One of the things I love about the Integrative Health Practioner (IHP) Org is connecting with like minded people from all over the globe. For the most part, it’s done virtually, but today I was fortunate to meet Lauren Davies] in person! We talked about our business, detoxes, parasites 🐛🪱 & how delicious food & wine in South Africa is. (It’s SO good!!)

I’m so happy to be in her native South Africa, what a wonderful country to travel to. Who knows where we will meet up next Lauren Davies] ?

17.5 years, 10 houses, 35+ countries visited, a wonderful husband & 2 gorgeous children later… we are leaving London for now at least.

I have had the best years of my life & made an amazing group of friends along the way (you know who you are).

We could easily have stayed - oh how I will miss English pubs, the beautiful countryside, the vibrancy of London, European travel, the convenience of everything & living somewhere with so much history. And our wonderful friends 😢

But, it’s time to head back to Aotearoa to be with family, enjoy the Great Outdoors & everything nature has to offer.

London - you have been a blast & will remain forever in my heart ❤️

New Zealand - see you in a couple of months!

After receiving a mosquito bite in the garden a while back I made an elementary error. Wanting to get rid of the itch as quickly as possible I applied lavender oil (which can help with insect bites) directly onto my skin, and way too much for my sensitive skin to handle. I subsequently developed an angry rash (see pictures above) and I tried several natural remedies to heal it. Coconut oil & aloe vera being a couple. Nothing helped & after trying for several weeks my last resort was a combination of pure vitamin E oil with jojoba oil. My skin loved the vitamin E oil and the rash thankfully disappeared within a few days of applying twice a day.

I am sharing this story to remind myself that I need to be vigilant and take care to dilute any oils that I apply on my skin. But also sharing as you may benefit from my stupidity as well!

PS: If you use vitamin E oil please do a patch test as it doesn’t suit everyone.

If you’re digestive system isn’t functioning as it should, you will not feel optimal. One of the common issues I see alongside constipation is loose stool. Rather than having your system blocked up, loose stool can leaving you feel depleted & malnourished.

Loose stool is when you consistently need to evacuate more than 3 x a day. This can cause you to lose a lot of water & electrolytes, so if you are suffering from headaches, dizziness and fatigue, this may be why.

Having to run to the loo every time you eat is no fun at all and long term will deplete you of nutrients as they are unable to be absorbed into your body.

Some things to try to help alleviate loose stool:

🌟Do a parasite cleanse
🌟Eat small portions
🌟Decrease heavy fats
🌟Avoid fried food
🌟Avoid dairy & gluten
🌟Avoid caffeine & alcohol
🌟Take apple cider vinegar before meals
🌟Take turmeric
🌟Try dandelion tea
🌟Take 3 deep breaths before meals
🌟Chew your food into a paste before swallowing
🌟Eat slowly

If you have been suffering from loose stool for an extended period, it may be time to delve deeper and look for your root cause. Removing the foods and drinks above may help alleviate the symptoms but will not resolve the root cause issue & are not long term “fixes”. Also taking random probiotics may not help either - it’s never something I recommend to a client without first completing a gut protocol.

Not exactly a sexy topic but one that is SO important and is one of the most common issues I see amongst my clients.

If you are not having 2-3 fully formed bowel movements a day (1 at the very least), if you have difficulty passing stool, you’re passing hard pebbly or stringy stools or you need to spend a long time on the toilet (and not just to look at your phone) then you are constipated.

If you have suffered with this issue chronically then it’s very possible you will end up with a hormonal imbalance. Our colon is an essential part of our drainage pathway system and helps our bodies excrete toxins, pathogens, excess hormones and other waste. Let’s put it this way - if you are blocked up then the stuff that’s not supposed to be there will get reabsorbed back into your body… 😫

Some things to try to help alleviate constipation:

🌟Drink only warm or hot liquids
🌟Apple cider vinegar before meals
🌟Digestive enzymes with meals
🌟Hot water with lemon to start the day
🌟Colon massage with coconut oil
🌟Add more healthy fats into your diet
🌟Take a magnesium supplement
🌟Walk after meals
🌟Take triphala

Monday = Reset day!

Eat dinner on Sunday night & don’t eat until Monday night (only if your body is up for this - you may need to ease your way in to a full 24 hours).

Drink an Daily Nutritional Support shake & stick to liquids.

Have a light dinner on Monday night.

Wake up on Tuesday feeling refreshed and awesome 🤩

Before I recommend a treatment, supplement or protocol to a client I always like to try it out for myself. Today I tried cranio sacral therapy treatment as it has worked wonders on my daughter and I was curious to do it myself.

If you haven’t heard of it before it is a touch-based therapy founded in osteopathy and works on rebalancing and calming the nervous system whilst also engaging with the physical, mental and emotional aspects held within our systems.

A cranio sacral therapist can tune into the body’s rhythm and release any restrictions held within the system. These restrictions can be caused by past traumas, not always conscious to us - our mind may tell us that we have dealt with a trauma that our body is still holding on to.

My daughter’s health has vastly improved through nutrition and supplements, however it turned out that she had restrictions stemming from a ventouse delivery at birth. After a few sessions, her demeanour has changed dramatically and she is physically calmer. With each session a layer of stress is melted away.

I likened my session to a float tank experience. Everyone will be different, but I felt very relaxed and serene after my session. My daughter says its like experiencing a lovely massage.

If you or your child is suffering from any stress-related issues or you are interested in becoming more connected with your body, then I highly recommend having a treatment. And if you are in the Teddington area, make sure to see as she is amazing!
