I know it can be really hard to come and see me and talk about things that are very personal. I have had some amazing people come through the door over the last few weeks with some incredible stories leading up to seeing me, and related to their improvements they have gained by coming to see me.

Seeing a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist can be really challenging mentally, emotionally and for some, physically.

My job is to try and make this easier. Here to help.

I know it can be really hard when it feels like you are making no progress and life is busy. Pelvic floor muscles are like other muscles and they take time to strengthen. Think about if you started a new gym program how long would it be until you saw changes to your strength?

The answer is actually anything from 12-24 weeks.

Research shows it really helps to have someone supporting you and checking in on your progress.

Having a pelvic floor assessment with a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist to give you a customised program based on your needs also means you are likely to be more successful. This is especially important if you are unsure you are doing the exercises right.

It can be a really big step to be courageous and seek help but remember small steps add up to big results in pelvic health. Don’t give up!

With Birth Trauma Awareness Week approaching, we’re again inviting people to take part in our β€˜50 for 50’ campaign πŸ’™

50 for 50 is all about raising awareness of the prevalence of birth trauma, as well as acknowledging and honouring Aotearoa’s birth trauma community.

50 for 50 invites you to do 50 of something over Awareness Week, as a reflection of the number of women/birthing parents impacted by psychological birth trauma PER DAY in Aotearoa.

Research tells is that 1 in 3 Mums report their birth as emotionally traumatic – in Aotearoa, that’s 50 Māmā PER DAY.

Your 50 doesn’t need to be complicated or big and it’s totally up to you what you do.
We’ll be sharing ideas over the next week or so, so keep an eye out, get inspired and get invovled.

Let us know if you do!
We love seeing the 50 things people do to send some aroha to our community πŸ’™

Men’s pelvic health has a significant impact on quality of life but there is also a lot we can do to help.

Men can suffer from:
πŸ‘‰ pelvic pain
πŸ‘‰ erectile dysfunction
πŸ‘‰ bladder and bowel control problems……. all of which a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist can help treat and manage.

We also help with post prostatectomy recovery of bladder control and help optimise sexual function recovery.

Have those conversations – Men often don’t know help is available.

Pregnancy and childbirth are leading causes of pelvic floor, continence and prolapse problems and can have a significant impact on quality of life.

There are many things that you can do during pregnancy that help your body to adapt and things that you can do during pregnancy and labour to

shorten overall labour
shorten the pushing stage
reduce pain
reduce that chance of perineal tearing

A great place to start is stay active and try and aim for 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise (you can still talk but are slightly puffed), Pelvic floor exercises daily.

Talk to your midwife for exercises suggestions that are right for you.
