Is your vision a little... "wonky"? 🏉

Ever feel like things aren’t just blurry, but slightly distorted? Or do you find yourself squinting at the TV even with your glasses on? You might have astigmatism.

Think of a normal eye like a round soccer ball. With astigmatism, the eye is shaped more like a rugby ball. This means light doesn't focus on a single point, causing:
✅ Blurry vision at all distances
✅ "Starbursts" around headlights at night
✅ Tired eyes or headaches after a long day

The good news? It’s incredibly common and very easy to fix! Whether it's precision-crafted glasses or specialized "toric" contact lenses, we can get your world looking sharp again.

Did you know that myopia (nearsightedness) is on the rise globally? It’s not just about needing glasses; it’s about how our eyes are changing in a digital world.

Quick tips to protect your vision:

The 20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Go Outside: Natural daylight helps regulate eye growth in children.

Regular Check-ups: Sometimes we don't realise what we aren't seeing until we get an exam!

Don't ignore the squinting. Schedule an eye exam today! 👁️✨grantanddouglas.co.nz

Thinking about your eyes? 👀 Whether you’re a pro or a first-timer, these contact lens "Golden Rules" keep your vision clear and your eyes healthy!
✨ Top Tips for Contact Wearers:
Wash & Dry: Always wash your hands with soap and dry them with a lint-free towel before touching your lenses.
Water is a No-Go: Keep your lenses away from tap water, pools, and showers. It’s a breeding ground for bacteria!
Fresh Solution Only: Never "top off" old solution. Dump it out, rinse the case with fresh solution, and let it air dry upside down.
The 3-Month Rule: Toss your contact lens case every 3 months. It's time for a fresh start!

Stop the Screen Stare! 🛑👀

Did you know that we blink up to 66% less when looking at a digital screen? No wonder your eyes feel like they’re full of sand by 4:00 PM!

If you’re stuck at your desk, try these 3 quick fixes to save your sight:

The 20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It gives your focusing muscles a much-needed "stretch."

Check Your Level: Your monitor should be about an arm’s length away, with the top of the screen at or slightly below eye level. Looking slightly downward is easier on your eyes!

Hydrate Your Air: If your office is dry, a small desk humidifier can keep your eyes from drying out.

Imagine waking up and seeing clearly, no glasses, no daytime contacts. 🌅

That’s exactly what Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) offers! It’s a non-surgical way to correct your vision while you sleep.

How it works:

You wear specially designed lenses overnight.

The lenses gently reshape your cornea while you rest.

You wake up, take them out, and enjoy clear vision all day long!

It’s completely reversible, safe, and perfect for active lifestyles, swimmers, or anyone tired of dry eyes from daytime contacts.

Is it just us, or is that text getting a little harder to read? 🔍📉

Most of us wait until our vision gets blurry to book an eye exam, but your eyes are experts at hiding problems until they’re advanced. Conditions like glaucoma or retinal issues often show zero symptoms in the early stages!

Whether you’re a 20/20 visionary or a lifelong glasses wearer, here is your friendly reminder to check the calendar:

📅 Age 18–39: Every 2 years
📅 Age 40–64: Every 1–2 years
📅 Age 65+: Annually

In the meantime, give your eyes a break today with the 20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Your eyes will thank you! 👁️✨

Is your headache an "Eye-ache"? 🧠👓

Not all headaches are created equal. If yours is caused by your vision, a new pair of glasses or specialized lenses could be the "cure" you’ve been looking for. At Grant and Douglas, we specialize in finding the root cause of your visual discomfort.

When should you see an Optometrist for headaches?

✅ The "Workday" Pattern: Your head feels fine in the morning but thumps by the time you finish work or reading.

✅ Squinting: You find yourself narrowing your eyes to see the TV or road signs.

✅ Light Sensitivity: Fluorescent office lights or bright sunlight make the pain worse.

✅ Near-Work Struggles: You get a headache specifically when sewing, reading, or using your phone.
