My Unconventional Gym Journey: From Insecurity to Empowerment
I've had a complicated relationship with the gym, but my journey taught me valuable lessons about self-love, empowerment, and prioritizing well-being.
As a young apprentice chef, I started going to the gym with colleagues. After moving to Melbourne, I was active but didn't go to the gym. When I had my eldest son, I studied Exercise and Sports Science, becoming fit (lifting 60kgs, squatting 60kgs at 72kgs). Yet, mental insecurity consumed me; I didn't appreciate my post-baby body.
During diploma placement, I helped others build confidence, but neglected my own well-being, hitting rock bottom.
After my youngest son's birth, I returned to the gym at 6 weeks postpartum. Covid closed gyms, and I traded weights for a coffee machine, serving smiles caffeine and food at our gym café.
Whilst studying physiotherapy I took up running but not having adequate rehab post baby pain became an unwelcome study buddy. Neglecting self-care compromised my well-being, sparking a wake-up call: prioritize recovery or risk burnout.
That's when I looked inward, addressing deep-seated shadows. Confronting inner demons, I prioritized self-care.
Now, gym time (3x/week) is non-negotiable. It's not just physical; it's mental resilience and self-love.

What held me back from my passion of working with people and their wellness?
Imposter syndrome. I wasn't practicing what I preached.
